At 34, Craig was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. When it spread to his liver, he was given six months.

When chemotherapy was no longer an option, Craig turned to interventional radiology at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he met Dr. Steven Wagner.

Through radioembolization, a minimally invasive treatment that delivers tiny radioactive beads directly to tumors, his cancer was targeted while allowing him to keep living his life. This care is part of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, bringing advanced cancer treatment options closer to patients.

Now 38, Craig is back to staying active, spending time with his dog and focusing on the relationships that matter most.

Jefferson Health colleagues spent the day at St. Hubert High School for Girls for Women in Health Care Day, connecting with students and sharing what a career in health care can look like across many different paths.

The program included a keynote from Tricia Nichols, Patient Experience Director, Jefferson Health – North Region, who returned as an alumna to share her journey and encourage students to trust their abilities and embrace where their path can lead.

Through panel discussions and hands-on sessions, students had the opportunity to ask questions, learn directly from our colleagues and explore roles, including occupational therapy, speech pathology, respiratory therapy and pathology, in a meaningful way.

Thank you to Kristen Gilmore, Program Manager for Nurse Well-Being, along with Dr. Michelle Conley, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Jefferson Health – North Region, Heather Mills, pathology, Kathleen Rayca, speech pathology, Alex Bishop, respiratory therapist, and Lauren Varallo, occupational therapist, for spending time with students and helping bring this day to life.

Over the past month, our Pet Therapy Dogs for Nurse Well-Being Program made their rounds at Jefferson's Torresdale, Bucks, Frankford and Einstein Montgomery hospitals, offering nurses and staff a moment to pause in the middle of busy shifts.

With certified therapy dogs and their handlers, these visits bring simple moments of comfort, connection and reset throughout the day.
