One of our Environmental Services partners, James, was recently recognized by Jefferson Health - Abington with a Mission Moment Award.

The Special Care Nursery experienced the heartbreaking loss of a baby. Amid the profound grief, a powerful act of compassion stood out — James quietly stepped in to support the baby's father. As the father walked away from the bedside in anguish, James gently put his arm around him and walked with him to the back of the unit, offering comfort and presence in a moment of unimaginable pain. He acted without hesitation, simply because it was the kind and decent thing to do.

Moments like these are what carry us through the hardest days. Thank you, James, for your kindness & for being a part of our team. 🤍

This week, Lori Carpenter, our very own SCN lactation consultant spoke on a panel at Breakthroughs 2025, one of the nation’s leading healthcare conferences.

She discussed the Jefferson Abington Special Care Nursery’s Early Maternal Milk Project - an initiative that has worked to assist parents in pumping earlier to be able to provide vulnerable infants with maternal milk sooner.

Way to go Lori! You are a gift to the unit and our families!

Two common misconceptions about the NICU:
1️⃣ the NICU is only for premature babies
2️⃣ the journey ends at discharge

George was born full term but was critically ill and spent almost a month in the NICU. Four and a half years later, George has graduated from our Neonatal Follow Up Program!

We are so glad we get to help families through their child’s hospital admission & navigate life beyond the NICU. 💚

You’d never guess this chunky little 8 month old was once a 2 and a half pound 27 weeker who spent 122 days in the NICU! 💕
