Lead has been used for a long time in a wide variety of products found in and around our homes, including painted toys, furniture and toy jewelry, cosmetics, food or liquid containers and plumbing materials. Lead exposure can have serious health consequences for children.

As we observe National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 29-25), take some time to inspect and identify spots in your home (and your child's environment) where lead may be present.

🌡️🤧Cooler temperatures and increased viral infections make fall a critical time for asthma management.

⚕️For healthcare and public health professionals, October is an opportunity to:
✅Anticipate seasonal triggers like mold, temperature changes and other allergens
✅Emphasize the importance of flu vaccines for children with asthma
✅Remind families to update or create Asthma Action Plans

Proactive asthma education and prevention can reduce ER visits and keep children healthy.

🏡❓As we observe National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 19-25), here's a question: have you checked your home for lead?

Lead can be found in many places in and around your home including in the paint, soil, water and everyday materials. The only way to ensure your home is lead-free is to conduct lead testing.

To request a free lead testing kit and to learn more about The Cooperative's Lead & Healthy Homes program.

A simple blood test is used as a screening tool to tell if your child has been exposed to lead. It is recommended that all children be tested for lead at both 1 and 2 years old.
