Are you tired of hating your body?šŸ‘‡šŸ»

Does this sound like you?
😣You feel uncomfortable in your clothes.
😣You dread when people take photos of you.
😣You worry about people looking at your body when you walk into a party.
😣You are constantly comparing your body to others.

Body image is processed in the emotion centers of your brain. You never see yourself truly objectively; it’s aways colored by your experiences, environment, emotions, thoughts, and beliefs.

As a result, your perception about your body ebbs and flows all day long, without your actual body size changing.

Therefore, in theory, do you think it’s possible to cultivate a more neutral or positive perception of your body, without the prerequisite of losing weight?

I know it’s hard to even entertain this theory, because part of your brain might be fighting against the idea of trying to have a good relationship with your body now, because you can’t accept your body now.

But let me ask you this: has trying to improve your body image by losing weight worked, long-term? Think back to a time in the past where you were in a smaller version of yourself - was it good enough? Did this solve all your body image issues? Did it last?

Do you ever wonder why self-control feels so hard?ā¤µļø

If you’re like most of my clients you’ve tried to control your weight, calories, portions, carbs, sugar, fat, emotional eating… the list goes on and on.

And if you fail, you blame it on willpower.

But what if eating and having a peaceful relationship with your body isn’t about control at all?

When you change your perception of what it means to truly care for your body, that’s when things really start to shift. That’s when you feel empowered to make decisions around food that are about nourishment, satisfaction, and attainment. That’s when you feel compassion for and confidence in your body.

If you want 1:1 support letting go of the diet mindset, send me a DM! šŸ’š

Have you given up dieting but now feel out of control around food?

The journey away from dieting and towards intuitive eating can sometimes feel a bit like you’re drowning.

Once you give yourself permission to eat all foods, that’s exactly what you might start doing.

You might find yourself overeating chips, feeling out of control, and still feeling guilty after. You think, maybe this intuitive eating thing isn’t going to work for me…

What if I told you that this is a completely normal part of the process? What if I told you most of my clients have gone through this phase and are still able to make peace with food?

If you need support on how to move past dieting backlash and feel more calm around foods, send me a DM! šŸ’š

How this one realization changed everything for my clientšŸ‘‡šŸ»

Here’s what she said:

ā€œI’m always either working on losing weight and feeling in control OR not working on it and feeling out of controlā€

She was only operating in one of these two modes. Fighting to lose weight or fighting against gaining weight.

Until I presented her with the secret third mode: Body Neutrality.

I asked her:

ā€œWhat if you work on how you feel about your body instead of your body itself?ā€

ā€œWhat if you focus on what your body can do instead of what it looks like?ā€

I need you to know: giving up the fight with your body does not mean you’re giving up on self-improvement.

In fact, body neutrality will bring you closer than ever to health, self-care, comfort, and confidence.

Here’s why it’s so hard to give up on the dream of a perfect body…

…because it’s about more than your body.

We live in a culture that values thinness as a measure of self-worth, health, confidence, morality, and acceptance. To name a few.

All of these things are directly tied to your biological survival instinct. Of course you want to be accepted and loved. This will make you happy. And isn’t that the whole point?

So when you give up on pursuing a smaller body, it might feel like you’re giving up on being happy.

This is the biggest trap of diet culture.

Always chasing a smaller version of yourself keeps you in the constant state of hope followed by disappointment when you never seem to be able to get there.

Because it’s an impossible standard. It does not actually exist.

Instead of chasing the mirage of your perfect body, what would happen if you embraced the reality of your unique, live-giving, strong, amazing body now?

Here’s what happened when my client replaced ā€œself-controlā€ with ā€œself-careā€šŸ‘‡šŸ¼

ā€œI want more self-control with foodā€ āž”ļø ā€œI want more self-care with foodā€

ā€œExercise is about self-controlā€ āž”ļø ā€œExercise is about self-careā€

ā€œI would feel better in my body if I had more self-controlā€ āž”ļø ā€œI would feel better in my body if I had more self-careā€

What do you notice? A softening, perhaps.

You might feel like if you aren’t hard on yourself then you will be out of control. Or weak. Or a failure.

Or maybe you feel like your body right now doesn’t deserve gentle care. It’s not going to be strong enough to make you change.

But has being mean to yourself worked as a good motivator? As says: you can’t hate yourself healthy.

This isn’t just about language. Replacing ā€œcontrolā€ with ā€œcareā€ changes the intention behind the behavior.

WHY are you making those choices with food?

WHY are you deciding to exercise?

WHY do you want to feel better in your body?

It’s about moving to a place of inner self-care, rather than external control (ie diet culture rules).

I’m guessing that at your core, you value your physical and mental health. This intrinsic self-care approach is the strongest force there is to making healthy changes that stick.

Unpopular truths about overeatingšŸ‘‡šŸ¼

1. It’s normal to get too full sometimes
2. It’s not a matter of willpower

If you’re someone who eats past comfortable fullness for any of these reasons, I’m guessing you might feel shame and guilt when you do.

While the negative self-talk may sound like your voice, you have internalized it from diet culture.

For as much as diet culture makes you feel bad about overeating, most of the reasons are actually diet culture’s fault. Isn’t it ironic?

You don’t need more self-control. You just have to stop living by diet culture’s rules.

This will significantly decrease how often you overeat AND remove the guilt and shame on occasions when you do get too full.

This is probably not what you want to hear…

Have you heard the saying: it’s not your dream body if it’s a nightmare to maintain?

What would it feel like to stop punishing your body and actually take care of it the way it wants to be taken care of?

You’d be amazed what happens when you start showing your body kindness.

Nobody loves their body all the time. But it IS possible to be more at peace with it, even at a higher weight than where you’d like it to be.

Ok this sounds weird, but imagine two fish swimming in a pond. 🐠🐟

One fish says to the other, ā€œisn’t the water temperature nice today?ā€ The other fish responds by asking ā€œā€¦umm, what’s water?ā€

See where I’m going with this?

Diet culture is the water in which we swim, and it’s so pervasive that most of us don’t even know we’re living in it. I used to swim in that deep water myself 🌊

Here’s the magic of learning about diet culture:

One you see it, you can’t unsee it. 🤯

And it’s like a freakin super power. The more your awareness grows, the easier it is to start trusting yourself instead.

Let’s be real: It’s impossible to be completely unaffected by diet culture. But you CAN learn how to lessen its influence on your life and feel confidence in your food choices, exercise habits, body size, and any other health behaviors you want to pursue šŸ’š

How do you notice diet culture in your own life? Would love to hearšŸ‘‡šŸ¼

Do you think negative thoughts about food and your body all day?

You aren’t alone. Many of my clients say it consumes at least 75% of their thoughts on a daily basis. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

We live in a world obsessed with thinness, so of course it makes sense. You have been led to believe that by controlling your food, you can control your body size (and finally be happy, right?)

But has that worked? Has worrying about food and your body made you happier?

Imagine how much space you would free up in your brain if food and body only took up 10% of your thoughts. What would you do with all that freedom?

My guess is your life would fill up with all the things that ACTUALLY make you happy šŸ™ŒšŸ»

Here’s why it feels impossible to trust your bodyšŸ‘‡šŸ»

Dieting teaches you to use EXTERNAL cues (like calorie tracking, measurements, good/bad food lists) to CONTROL your eating.

Intuitive eating is all about listening to your INTERNAL cues to take CARE of yourself.

The hunger-fullness scale can be a game-changing tool to help you relearn your body’s signals and eventually eat in a way that aligns with your body’s needs (most of the time).

Now remember, intuitive eating is NOT the Hunger-Fullness Diet. There will be times when you go too long without eating and get too hungry. There will be times when you get uncomfortably full. AKA the normal experiences of being a human 😌

This scale is simply a starting point to help you move away from rigid diet rules and towards body trust. It helps you get curious about what your cues feel like and patterns in your behaviors around food.

Dieting takes away your confidence to know what your body really needs. It’s time to reclaim it.

I wonder what you’ll discover when you’re finally able to tap into that inner wisdom 🤯

Anti-diet does not mean anti-health.

In fact, intuitive eating might just be the healthiest eating philosophy you can find.

If you google intuitive eating, you might see a lot of emphasis on ā€œeating whatever you wantā€, but this greatly oversimplifies just one of the 10 principles (more on that later).

Did you know the last principle of intuitive eating is Gentle Nutrition? Here is where you learn how to nourish your body like never before:

šŸ’š Food choices that honor both your health and taste preferences, without rigid rules or guilt.
šŸ’š Listening to your body’s hunger and fullness cues, and how different foods make you feel physically and emotionally.
šŸ’š Enjoying a variety of foods, including those that provide nourishment and pleasure, while also being mindful of how they contribute to overall well-being.
šŸ’š Balance and flexibility in your eating habits, rather than following strict dietary guidelines.

Did you know there over 100 studies to date on intuitive eating and the amazing health benefits (in both body and mind)?

What do you think life would be like as an intuitive eater?

It might surprise you to hear that you can feel hunger in places other than your stomach šŸ˜‹

One of the first steps in the intuitive eating process is getting in tune with your unique hunger cues. Here are some clues:

šŸŽHEAD: increased thoughts of food, distraction, trouble concentrating, dizzy, lightheaded, headache.
šŸŽMOOD: hangry, irritable, snappy, moody.
šŸŽENERGY: sleepy, fatigue, sluggish.
šŸŽMOUTH/THROAT: increased saliva in mouth , gnawing in throat.
šŸŽSTOMACH: emptiness, rumbling/gurgling, pangs, ache, nausea.
šŸŽBODY: shakiness, sweaty, heart racing, feels like anxiety or low blood sugar.

Can you notice these cues with neutral curiosity, rather than judgement? This is the foundation on which we can build more trust with our bodiesšŸ«¶šŸ»
