Massachusetts has launched an Anti-Hunger Task Force to address growing hunger in our communities with too many people struggling to afford enough food. Locally, the South Coast has a seat at the table with representation from Pam Kuechler, executive director of PACE.

PACE operates a food bank on Park Street in New Bedford and is one of many organizations working hard to make sure no one goes hungry.

As scheduled, our grand re-opening of the Friends & Family Breakfast Cafe is tomorrow! We will be going back to our usual Monday through Friday from 7-9 a.m. schedule. At this time, we would like to thank the many volunteers who helped with moving things in and out of the kitchen as well as making sure that everything was neat and tidy and put back in its proper place. A special thank you goes out to our town’s Facilities Director, Andrew Daniel, who was in charge of the overall project. We installed a new grease trap, new flooring and painted the kitchen walls and base cabinets and Andrew made sure it all happened on time and under budget! Thank you one and all and please join us for breakfast this week, we are excited to get back up and running!

In a move to strengthen emergency preparedness in all 273 assisted living facilities in Massachusetts, Gov. Healey and her administration are requiring each facility to submit documentation demonstrating compliance with fire safety protocols, including sprinkler systems, fire-rated doors and walls, evacuation procedures, and emergency preparedness plans. Where needed, follow-up visits will take place, according to Aging & Independence Secretary Robin Lipson.

Coastline recently hosted summer cookouts for residents at two supportive housing sites—Anderson Way in Dartmouth and Grinnell House in New Bedford. While the cooking was done outdoors, residents gathered indoors to enjoy a delicious meal in the comfort of air conditioning.

These events provided a great opportunity for neighbors to connect, share conversation, and enjoy the flavors of summer. Thank you to all who helped make these gatherings possible.

Coastline is in Chicago this week for the annual USAging conference — the premier national gathering for organizations serving older adults!

Pre-conference events kicked off on July 19 with the USAging Board of Directors meeting. We’re proud to share that Coastline’s CEO, Justin Lees, attended as a newly elected board member. Also representing Coastline are COO Sylvia Nobre-Hilton and Planner Zachary Boyer, who are connecting with leaders from across the country to bring back fresh ideas and strategies to better serve older adults and individuals with disabilities here at home.
