awningLife prenatal, postpartum, and consultation visits will be held at our new office location beginning August 1st, 2019. Our new DawningLife office is located in Acworth GA, about a mile north of exit 4 on Interstate 575 and less than a mile south of Highway 92. We cover an area extending out 1 to 2 hours, serving all Greater Metro-Atlanta and North Georgia areas. We encourage women to birth where and how they choose and offer a variety of home-birth options including water-birth. Studies continue to consistently affirm that planned, midwife attended homebirth is as safe or safer than hospital birth. We believe in and practice with Evidence-Based Guidelines, and the Midwifery Model of Care. Our statistics are much better than average, and by following these guidelines, issues of safety are allowed to be appropriately addressed, while uplifting and honoring the wonderfully human and spiritual aspects of birth. Our homebirth midwifery practice is firmly based on informed choice. We believe women and families have the right to determine their own care in pregnancy and birth. With each 1-2 hour prenatal appointment we provide ample time and opportunity for education, discussion and relationship–building allowing for and nurturing confidence and trust. We believe that a woman’s body is designed to give birth and that pregnancy and birth are normal processes. We are dedicated to empowering women and honoring your cultural, religious, and personal requests within the bounds of safety. Beyond that, we also believe that birth is meant to a be key event in a woman’s life and a joyful and celebratory family event.

✨ In the stillness of early morning, this strong baby boy arrived — 8 lbs of pure perfection. 💙

Wearing his cord like a sacred necklace, his tiny hand resting gently below his chin; he carried the quiet strength and beauty of the womb into his first breath.

He was welcomed with open arms into the steady, loving embrace of his father, a grounding presence holding space for new life, safety, and love.

Together with his mama, they moved through birth with trust, strength, and grace ! What a powerful reminder of the deep connection that guides this sacred journey.

Welcome to the world, little one.

This little guy led the way, a swift, sacred dance from womb to earth - arriving right into his mama’s hands while the midwives were still on their way! In that raw, powerful moment, all she needed was the unshakable force of her own unwavering intuition. When baby guides and mama trusts deeply, birth unfolds in its purest, most profound form. 🌿💙

Did you know⁉️
That creamy white coating on yoyr newborn’s skin? It’s called vernix caseosa—and it’s not something to rush to wipe off.

Formed in the womb during the third trimester, vernix is a powerful blend of sebum and skin cells that acts as a natural moisturizer, barrier, and immune defense. It protects the baby’s skin from constant exposure to amniotic fluid and prepares it for the dry, outside world.

Even at birth, any remaining vernix continues to nourish and hydrate the skin, carrying antimicrobial properties that help protect your baby in their earliest hours. It’s the original armor- but what remains, is meant to be there. It’s the final gift from the womb.

✨ This isn’t “birth residue”—it’s biologically designed protection.
✨ Let it soak in.
✨ Don’t be in a hurry to wash it away, it’s something to honor.

☕️An offering of warmth and wisdom.
This traditional Syrian postpartum tea, infused with cinnamon, ginger, anise and crowned with walnuts, was lovingly prepared and shared by the family during our postpartum visit.
A reminder that the mother is to be nourished, honored, and held just as tenderly as the newborn.
Care passed down through generations.
Received with gratitude, sipped with reverence. ✨

You don’t need to hold back in birth.
Not your voice.
Not your pace.
Not your truth.

You don’t need permission to move the way your body asks.
You don’t need to rush what takes time to open.
You don’t need to be still or silent to be strong.

Birth isn’t about fitting in.
It’s about coming home—to yourself.

Let it be messy.
Let it be sacred.
Let it be real.

🩸Your lab results are just one piece of the story.
They speak in whispers, not warnings. And in midwifery care—we listen differently.

We look for patterns. We ask better questions.
We translate numbers into nourishment, into rest, into small, loving shifts.

Because you are not a lab value.
You are a whole, wise body doing something extraordinary.

The Midwifery Model of Learning in Action 🤝

This is what midwifery education really looks like.

Not just a lecture hall.
Not just books and tests.
But hands-on, heart-forward, side-by-side learning.

In our practice, we follow a lineage model:
✨ Nearing the completion of her journey, a senior apprentice now turns to uplift the next. This refines her skills teaching through demonstration and reflection.
✨ The junior learns not only skills, but rhythms, presence, and trust.
✨ The midwife guides with intention and leads from within. Her wisdom woven through action, quiet assurance, and the way she tends both learning and labor. She shapes the learning through her own embodied knowing, guiding both apprentices toward the heart of the work.

This isn’t just a way to divide tasks. It’s a way to deepen capacity.
To practice shared responsibility.
To model how we hold each other—and the families we serve.

Whether it’s a short-term placement or a long-term journey, this model offers something rich:
Growth through relationship.
Learning that’s layered and lived.
A rhythm of give and receive that benefits everyone involved.

This is how midwifery knowledge lives on:
Relational. Embodied. Rooted in community and passed through lived experience.

Welcome to our new student Najala.

After the Birth, a Feast. 🫓🫒

After the golden hour…
After the placenta was born…
After the room quieted and the baby nursed…

We were invited to sit.
To rest.
To receive.

A beautiful breakfast laid out with love.

We don’t take it lightly.
Being invited into the most sacred moments of someone’s life…
Then being met with this kind of hospitality, generosity, and care in return.
It humbles us every time.

This is midwifery.
Not just catching babies, but being woven into the story.
Holding and being held.

Forever grateful for the families who trust us, feed us, and teach us.

✨Pre-Birth Convo…

Toniann: “We have to get a picture this time. We never take any. “

Debbie: “You mean before we look like we’ve been up for 24 hours?”

Toniann: “Yes, Exactly!”

✨14 hours later. Awake for 24+ hours.
Running on coffee, adrenaline, and the kind of gratitude that makes it all worth it.

She labored with power, and we just kept up!

📸We took the pic anyway.

Let’s talk about what your body really does during labor.

So much of birth is happening behind the scenes — guided by hormones, intuition, and biology working in perfect rhythm. The more we understand the why behind birth, the easier it is to trust the how.
