The Wellstar cardiovascular surgery team has earned the highest possible rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)—three stars—in four categories of heart surgery. The program, based at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, treats complex heart conditions with advanced technology and minimally invasive procedures. “This new accomplishment speaks volumes about the skill, precision and teamwork of our cardiothoracic team,” said Dr. Richard Myung, medical director of cardiothoracic surgery at Wellstar Kennestone. As a proud WSB-TV Family 2 Family partner, Wellstar recently hosted two sites for the 22nd annual Stuff the Bus event! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our team members and community, Wellstar helped collect over 7,200 backpacks and school supplies for more than 14,000 students across Metro Atlanta. A special shoutout to Wellstar Cherokee Health Park for collecting the most backpacks of all locations. The donated supplies will support the Children’s Restoration Network and help kids start the school year with confidence, support and the tools they need to succeed.

Wellstar recently welcomed 76 rising 10th through 12th grade high school students from over 60 Georgia high schools who spent two days at Wellstar as part of 21st Century Leaders' week-long Healthcare and IT Summer Institute. The students met several Wellstar leaders and visited Wellstar Vinings Health Park and Wellstar Cobb Medical Center, where they had a hands-on experience with the Da Vinci Surgical System, got a first aid lesson from our trauma team, visited our specialized Burn Center at Wellstar Cobb, learned about our partnership with Bee Downtown and heard about careers in healthcare. We value our partnership with 21st Century Leaders and look forward to planning exciting programs for the students each summer. They are an amazing group of young adults who represent the future of healthcare.

At just 26 years old, Maria's life took an unexpected turn. She discovered a lump in her breast and advocated for answers, which led to a cancer diagnosis and expert, multidisciplinary care at Wellstar. We're expanding cancer care in Cartersville! Our new 15,000-square-foot facility—slated to open in early spring 2026—will double Wellstar’s infusion capacity in the region. We will provide a full spectrum of services, including medical oncology, hematology, immunotherapy, chemotherapy and outpatient infusion therapy.
