Mobility aids can make a big difference in helping people stay active, safe, and independent. But how do you know whether a cane or a walker is the better choice?
When a Cane May Be Helpful:
A cane provides light support and helps with balance. It may be a good option if you:
• Have mild balance issues
• Need support on one side of your body
• Are recovering from a minor injury
• Experience occasional knee, hip, or joint pain
A cane helps redistribute weight and can reduce strain while walking.
When a Walker May Be a Better Option:
A walker offers more stability and support. It may be recommended if you:
• Feel unsteady when walking
• Need support on both sides of your body
• Are recovering from surgery or a more serious injury
• Have significant balance or strength challenges
Walkers provide a larger base of support, helping reduce the risk of falls.
