On MLK Jr. Day, we honor a legacy of service. As a national day of community service, it reminds us that making a difference is what blood donors do every time they selflessly give. At Our Blood Institute, that spirit of service lives on all year long.

Sometimes we don’t get to see the end result of our good deeds. But, today I got to experience that with one of our blood donors Lloyd Priest.

Mr. Priest has been donating since 1998  and he is an O negative donor! There’s no telling how many lives he saved because O negative is the universal donor and given an emergency situations.

He received a letter from the survivor of a horrible accident with pictures of her husband and her two children.

I’ve included her story if you want to read it. I don’t think Mr. Priest would mind if I shared that we were both moved to tears.
