I am so excited about this website I have found. It has been challenging to find ways to communicate with my beautiful granddaughter, even though there is information out there when I had the opportunity to spend time with her I was at a total loss, my complete ignorance of all things that pertain to her amazes me still. I sort of pride myself on being able to go to bing and find anything that I want to know about. There is so much information out there and I found it, but when it came time to implement my findings it was like I knew absolutely nothing, Since Christmas I have had the wonderful opportunity to spend so much more time with her and now instead of all the clinical facts and the generalizations of these very sweet children I have found some new books two of which my son is lending me and this new website it is now clear to me that she has always bee communicating with me I was just too uneducated to realize it. These are the two books I am talking about: I AM IN HERE written by Elizabeth M Bonker and Virginia G, Breen. Elizabeth is the subject of this book I have only read about forty pages, although I plan to finish it and the book by Jenny McCarthy entitled MOTHER WARRIORS by March 4th which is when I will be back in Lake Mary for a week with the opportunity to spend another week with her. Anyway this is the beginning for me of probably the most important chapter in my 63 years on this earth. when the next time arises where I think I have something to say it will be looking at this world through the eyes of this wonderful child who is always happy and so intelligent and hopefully she can teach me what she has always known to live in the moment, to enjoy the ipad, to enjoy youtube and the Disney princesses and the girls with their little videos where they are unwrapping and playing with the toys that she loves and watching her play the way they play if they don't realize it they are reaching this child and probably countless others and helping them to find there voice as they say and do the same things the girls do. Okay well enough said now lets see if I can put these words into actions. to all the parents, grandparents, and siblings of these children good luck, never give up because like Elizabeth and Temple Grandin and so many others who I don't know of. There is light at the end of this tunnel called Autism if we just allow our children to show us the way out, they are telling us every day in every way we just need to learn what they already know. God bless every family member, friend, and doctor who has someone they love where my sweet girl is and God please give me the courage to complete this quest that I am on, it is without a doubt the most meaningful thing I have ever attempted. Also please keep on giving my son the strength and courage and unique ability that he shows every day of his life since she was born. Not just because he is my son, he is the most, loving, selfless and caring daddy I have ever known, his daughter has always been his primary concern since she was born and he has never looked back, she shares the spotlight with her sister and her brother. Anyway Manuel is the best dad in the world I am so proud of him to see him with his children is to know that is the way daddys are supposed to be if every child would have been lucky enough to have a dad like him there would be no serial killers or any people who grow up never known love or kindness or knowing that their dad had their back no matter what. How many of us as children could fall asleep without a care because our daddy was there and all was good, I know that my life would have been totally different if my dad had the heart that my son has. Alright this time I am finished for real.

Happy Friday! For our last Full of Quotes Friday for 2022 ......we want to share one of our favorites!!!

There is so much power when we focus on emotional regulation! 💜💚

12/13/2022

Happy Tuesday! It's time for our last Tipful Tuesday for 2022!

Today's tip is play Holiday Games!

Playing Holiday Games is a wonderful way to build your child's Holiday Vocabulary such as: Santa, Christmas Tree, Mrs. Claus, gingerbread house, cookies, Christmas lights, reindeer, and much more.

Playing Holiday Game is always a fun way to prepare for Family Events. Many of our families plays these games throughout the month of December and then again during Family/Friends Holiday Parties....giving our kids the opportunity to not only participate but setting them up to succeed during these events!

At our office we play a ton of Holiday Games such as: go fish, memory, fishing game, bingo, uno, toss the ring on the reindeer, feed a hungry Santa, pin the tail on the reindeer, pin the ornament on the tree, and so much more!

What is your favorite Holiday Game that you play as a family?

12/09/2022

We hope that everyone is having a wonderful day! Yay for Friday!!

12/06/2022

Happy Tuesday! It's time for another Tipful Tuesday!

This is one of our favorite Holiday Activities......decorating the Christmas Tree!

At our office we have mini tree in almost all therapy rooms along side a box of decoration goodies! When decorating the tree we get to work on so many different vocabulary targets for both expressive and receptive vocabulary such as:

on
off
big
little
ornaments
beads
bows
candy canes
lights
different colors
different shapes
dangerous
and more

When we work in small groups we take it a step further and work on creating and following a Group Plan!

We hope that you all enjoy decorating your tree this Holiday Season!

12/02/2022

So VERY True!

11/29/2022

Happy Tuesday! Time for another Tipful Tuesday!

With Christmas coming up our tip today is to read Holiday books! Reading Christmas books is one of the best ways to help your child learn about holiday related vocabulary, holiday related traditions, as well prepare for holiday events such as decorating trees, making cookies, buying presents, visiting family and so much more.

We hope that you all enjoy reading!

11/25/2022

Can't really argue with this guy -- PLAY is AMAZING! What will you play today?

Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another Tipful Tuesday!!
.
💜Today we want to share Countdown Calendars! We LOVE these!!
.
💚Our families use Countdown Calendars for so many reasons: Holidays, School Breaks, Vacations (leading up to them and while they are on them), when one parent travels for work, for out of town guests (again for when they arrive and when they leave), for important/fun packages being mailed and more!!
.
💜These calendars help our kids plan, prepare, emotionally regulate, talk about their thoughts/feelings, talk about past/future events and more.
.
💚You can get as creative as you want with these calendars or not. Many of our families just use a normal calendar. When we can we do let our kids help us make them....the more we can include them in making their supports the better.
.
💜For more information on Countdown Calendars check out our blog on our website www.kidspeakdallas.com.

Happy Birthday to Ms. Manda! 💜💚🥳

11/11/2022

Exactly!!!! Our kids and therapist STAND OUT everyday!!💜💚

11/08/2022

Happy Tuesday! Today's Tip is one we talk about a lot....Visual Schedules!!
.
💚We love schedules!!! We used visual picture schedules and written schedules throughout all of our sessions.
.
💜Our kids LOVE them! So much that if we “forget” they ask us to write/make their schedules.
.
💚There are so many amazing skills that we are working on when we use a schedule from planning and organizing to preparing and emotionally regulating to initiating and flexibility and so much more!!!
.
💜One of the biggest things we hear to why not to use one is that “we never do the same things each day”.....and in reality this is the perfect reason to use a schedule!!!
.
💚To find out more about schedules check out our blog “Let me Check my Schedule” at www.kidspeakdallas.com. And if you need help making a schedule check out our online store.
.
💜If you need help starting a schedule or using one please let us know.....we would love to help!

What's Ms. Manda Reading?

This weekend Ms. Manda read a new amazing book.....Picture It! Teaching Visual - Spatial Learners by Betty Maxwell and Crystal Punch.

This book is full of great ideas on how to help your visual learner in the classroom, during homework time, within their organization skills, within their writing skills, within their math skills and more!

This is a great book for parents, teachers and therapists! You will have a lot of great ideas to help your visual learner after reading this book.

11/04/2022

So VERY true!!! This is one of our main goals within all of our sessions with our kids from our littles to our teenagers. We accomplish this by working on emotional regulation, social communication, executive functioning, problem solving, theory of mind and so much more!

11/04/2022

Due to the potential of severe weather this afternoon/evening; KidSpeak will be closing today at 11:30.

If you are scheduled today for an in person session, your therapist will be contacting you soon.

Everyone stay safe!!💜

Happy Tuesday! Today's tip is to create a Family Book.

We LOVE Creating these and adding to them for all of our kids.

For our little ones we make these very simple with pictures and names of all family members. Then we ask our families to read and review these a few times week. This is a great way for our little ones to learn everyone's name -- also wonderful to do before a family event so that they are familiar with their faces.

Next we like to add a little information about the people like their favorite color, favorite food, favorite toy, favorite game, and more. Sometimes we even work on our kids "interviewing" family members via phone or facetime or skype. Again this allows them to get to know each other, become familiar with each other before family events and much more.

Then we often work on our kids brainstorming what they can talk about with each family member based on what they like and/or their past family get together. We also use this book to help brainstorm gift making/buying for birthdays, holidays and more.

This is such a great activity to do before Thanksgiving OR an activity for the kids to work on during Thanksgiving!

We LOVE a good Family Book.

If you have questions about how to make these or how to use them with your kids please DM us or email [email protected] -- as we would love to help.

10/31/2022

Happy Halloween!!!

Our offices are closed today! We hope that you all have a fun and safe Halloween!! See you all tomorrow for our normally scheduled therapy sessions!

10/28/2022

YES YES YES!!!!

A standardize test will never show a child's true capabilities. It will only tell us a little about a child such as: how do they perform in a new environment, how do they perform with new people, how do they perform when being timed, etc.

Look beyond the test and look at life!

10/28/2022

Happiest of Birthdays to Ms. Kazima! We hope she has the best day!🥳💜💚

10/25/2022

Happy Tuesday!! It’s time for another Tipful Tuesday!!
.
💜Today’s tip is the Halloween Fairy!!
.
💚In the past we have used the Halloween Fairy to help is decrease the candy our kids eat on Halloween such as they get to keep so much and then they give the rest to the Halloween Fairy for a prize/toy. Check out our Halloween Fairy blog on our website from a few years ago for more detail.
.
💜But this year since Halloween may be different in your house....you can use the Halloween Fairy to bring the candy. Have your child draw a picture of what they think the Halloween Fairy looks like and leave it with their trick or treat bag.....then the next morning the picture is gone and the bag is full with candy!
.
💚We hope that you all have a wonderful Halloween!!

10/21/2022

This could not be MORE true!! What are good grade without the ability to have empathy of others, problem solve different solutions to a problem, collaborate and work with others, understand their own nervous system and what they need to succeed, and more!! It's not just about grades!

10/20/2022

Happy Birthday to Ms. Laura!! We hope she has the best day!💚💜🥳

Think of all the great language you can work on while finding these items: looking, finding, searching, taking turns, commenting, asking for help and more. This would be great for pumpkin patches; creating your own scavenger hunt by drawing pictures; taking walks if your neighborhood is decorated, watching Halloween Movies and more.
