Researchers at Oxford University are currently seeking parents of children (aged 16 years and under) with a visible difference to support their new project, โ€œParent experiences of having a child with visible differences and talking about this with others.โ€
To take part, researchers are inviting parents to complete a 20 minute online survey answering questions on
โ€ข Their wellbeing
โ€ข Their child's visible difference
โ€ข How stigmatised they feel
โ€ข Disclosure styles (how parents communicate about their child's appearance with others)
The research is looking to improve visible difference stigmatisation, and support parents and children affected by this. We also hope to gain insight into improving family wellbeing via the study.
Parents need to be aged 18 years and above, live in the UK or USA, and have access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone to complete the survey.

AWARD DESCRIPTION & CRITERIA
The David Roche Award for Excellence in Advocacy is an annual award bestowed on a speaker, educator, storyteller, artist, medical professional, or family member in the facial difference community who has gone above and beyond to advance the status of people with facial differences, promote acceptance and appreciation of appearance diversity, and challenged the stigma that surrounds physical differences.

Bridgett Garcia was born in Jersey City, NJ and currently lives in Hudson County. She is 33 years old and was born with Mccune Albright Syndrome which manifested when she was 7 years old. Mccune Albright Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects bones, skin and endocrine system. She currently works at a Mental Health nonprofit organization as a medical biller.
