Our culture teaches that strong people can “deal with” their emotions on their own. But EFTers know the real strength is being vulnerable and a sharing your emotions with others. After losing my mom, I’d sometimes get frustrated when others tried to “be strong” for me, especially as I felt an expectation to “be strong” myself, but I learned that when everyone is “strong” for everyone else, nobody finds any healing…

The word “codependent” has such a negative connotation that we sometimes forget how important interdependence is for healthy relationships.

As EFT process consultants, we don’t have to be the savior of relationships. I heard Ryan Rana once say, “we can’t promise we can save relationships, but what we CAN do is get clear about what’s happening.” What a relief to know that with focused EFT work, we are never lost, and we don’t need to sweat when people ask us how we know if couples therapy “will work” for them.
