Inter-Connections wishes to express our sympathy to the friends and family of Richard Fronce.

We were honored to have Richard serve on our Board of Directors for several years. He also knew many of our members prior to his involvement with the drop-in center, through his work at New Focus Clubhouse.

Richard will be remembered by many here as a friend, an advocate, and a down to earth guy with a fun sense of humor. He will be greatly missed!

The privatization of community mental health services will eliminate local control, limit access and put essential services at risk.

Contact your legislators and tell them to keep mental health care safe from privatization: https://cmham.org/advocacy/take-action-now/

How do I start a conversation with a loved one about their mental health?

Many people experiencing mental health issues will speak to friends and family before they speak to a health professional. If someone lets you know that they are experiencing difficult thoughts and feelings, it's common to feel like you don't know what to do or say – but you don't need any special training to show someone you care about them. Often just being there for someone and doing small things can be really valuable. Below are some tips and examples to start the conversation and keep it going:

*Ask open-ended questions
*Practice active listening
*Ask what you can do
*Be direct
*Don’t judge
*Follow through
