Have you ever seen a dog bone pillow? Our patients call these the “magical” pillows. Resting your neck on the dog bone pillow helps get the neck back to the normal cervical curve where the neck muscles are in the least amount of stress. This can reduce tension, slow down a headache that may be creeping in and reduce pain. We use them at the office preventatively to help patient’s bodies “remember” what normal is supposed to feel like- as a tool to create muscle memory of where the head should be in space.

At ALIVE Wellness Center, upper cervical (UC) chiropractic care is the main focus on how we help patients start to feel good in their bodies.⁠

UC is a highly specialized practice of locating and correcting nerve interference in the upper spine. With an extremely accurate diagnosis, the UC chiropractor can specifically correct one area of the spine, allowing the rest of the spine to reset itself, becoming healthy and stable again. ⁠

The UC chiropractor uses precise imaging of the upper spine to determine the direction of the misalignment, which allows him or her to administer a very specific correction. This significantly reduces the number of adjustments needed compared to traditional chiropractic care, which sometimes requires continuous spinal adjustments throughout a patient’s lifetime. ⁠

With UC chiropractic, subsequent visits are referred to as checkups and focus on maintenance/monitoring of the correction.⁠

In essence, UC chiropractic offers a less is more approach by:⁠

• Using precise x-rays, allowing the UC chiropractor to customize the adjustment.⁠
• Correcting a misalignment with light force and no twisting or popping.⁠
• Using objective testing to determine when to adjust the patient’s neck, if at all.⁠
• Knowing that the custom correction will maintain its “hold” for longer periods, allowing the body to self-heal, which minimizes the need for frequent, excessive adjustments.
