Tater Tot's page chronicles his journey after sustaining a back injury in 2020 that left him paralyzed and incontinent and shows how Tater has gotten the nickname of ‘Speedy’ and ‘Wild-man’ by those who knew him and his huge personality. Tater was very energetic and active prior to the injury that left him inactive and depressed, but now thanks to the IVDD Support Group and Walkin Wheels he is regaining his independence once more.

Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) is a disease which causes the discs to age prematurely. Owners and vets won't know the dog has IVDD until the first signs appear typically when the dog is between 3 and 8 years old. The discs have aged earlier than normal and tear instead of cushioning vertebrae as the dog moves. The tear causes damage to the spinal cord and nerves and is very painful causing the dog to be reluctant to move, yelp in pain, tremble, shake, or hold their head unusually high or low from the pain. As the spinal cord receives increased trauma caused by the damaged disc, a dog may also show loss of neuro functions shown by wobbly walking, paralysis, and loss of bladder control.
At the earliest sign of a disc problem, immediately crate your dog to protect the spinal cord. Time is of the essence. Get to a vet who knows disc disease for a diagnosis, and medications to help with the pain and swelling. Please share and help us educate.

Hello: My name was Dodger and I’m the inspiration for Dodgerslist. I had Intervertebral Disc Disease. I was possibly prematurely euthanized because my owners were not aware of all the treatment options available. Linda Stowe founded Dodgerslist in 2002 to try to prevent others from that same fate.
Today, Dodgerslist is a very busy online educational resource and support group. The members of Dodgerslist who are manning the message board are all volunteers. Dodgerslist also prints brochures business-type cards, advertises and does a quarterly newsletter.
I'd like to say thank you for your support in helping Dodgers to spread the word about IVDD, and that life for IVDD dogs can be a happy life. Most importantly, thank you on behalf of all the dogs whose lives you will help save through spreading our message and assisting to spread the word about IVDD.
