My niece Gigi is going to Panama 🇵🇦
Looking to become the best 15 year old female wrestler in the world (and she’s only 13). Congratulations🥰💪🏻 🥇
PACK YOUR BAGS, Ms. GIGI SULLIVAN!!!....
You're officially booked on a flight to Panama City, Panama this November!!!
Congratulations to NYS Girls Youth Queen, Gail "Gigi" Sullivan, who earned the right to represent the United States America this fall at the 2023 UWW Pan-American U15 Championships!!
Picking up right where she left off this past April when she was a Double Women's Nationals Gold medalist in the 14U and U15 divisions, the Monroe-Woodbury/Apex product was nothing short of spectacular today in Colorado at the U15 Pan-Am Trials (U.S. Air Force Academy campus), going 3-0 to be the last lady standing in a three-person field at 39kg!!
Facing a who's who of fellow elite female up-and-comers, Sullivan kicked off her Saturday by inflicting Ohioan, Libertie Nigh (2023 Fargo 16U 7th; 2022 Women's National U14 runner-up), with a 10-4 decision loss!!!
Leading 4-2 at the break after striking for a takedown off the whistle and then a 2pt exposure via a counter crotch-left (with approximately 1:05 remaining in the 1st period), the fierce Crusader broke the match open at the onset of the 2nd stanza, finishing a single-leg TD and then immediately transitioning into a half to drive her Ohio foe over for an additional 2pt exposure to increase the cushion to 8-2 with 1:43 to go in regulation....Sullivan later added her third takedown of the contest with :54 showing on the clock to round out her scoring...Nigh went down fighting, utilizing a snap and spin TD in the final 20 ticks to account for the aforementioned result!
As dominant as she was in Round #1, the S9er was even more invincible in closing out the RR, needing just :16 in order to get in deep on a single-leg and then transition into a "lights out" cradle to glue 2022 Pan-Am U15 silver medalist/2x USAW Girls Folk National runner-up/2023 Women's Nationals 14U Champion (double titlist in 2022), Brynn Engel (Wisconsin)!!!
Per USA Wrestling's desire to make the finals matches a best-of-3 series, she later returned to the mats and capped off her brief stay in the Centennial State by besting Nigh for the second time in as many attempts, 6-2!!
Getting off to another expedient start, all of her points came in the initial half minute of action, as Sullivan drew first blood with a single-leg TD and then applied a punishing bow & arrow for a pair of 2pt turns...
As she did in their previous head-to-head, Nigh made the margin more competitive with a late takedown (0:21 to go in duration)
Sullivan will now attempt to add to a 2023 New York Pan-Am yellow medal collection that has already been fed by the likes of Mikey Altomer (U20 GR), Charlie Wylie (2023 U17 Women), Vito Arujau (2023 Senior FS), Yianni Diakomihalis (2023 Senior FS), and Kyle Dake (2023 Senior FS)!
