🌟Meet one of our newest DSPs (Direct-Support Professionals) 🌟

Iris has just joined Ascend Services and is excited about servicing our members as a DSP with Home-Community Based Services. Iris will be working with our members in Bronx County.

When asked what excited Iris most about joining Ascend Services to be a DSP, Iris shared: " I wanted to be a DSP so that I can help children to become more independent".

Here are some fun facts about Iris:

🔹She has 3 years of experience as massage therapist.
🔹She loves to read, write and dance.
🔹She loves spending time with her best friend and working out.

💡Did you know according to the World Health Organization anxiety disorders are the world's most common mental disorders, affecting over 250 million people in 2019?

🧠Here are 6 different anxiety disorder types, published by the American Psychology Association that are most commonly found in children and teens ⬇️

🟢Generalized anxiety: Persistent and excessive worry about everyday activities or events.

🟢Separation anxiety: Excessive fear or worries about being separated from people with whom the child has a deep emotional bond.

🟢Social anxiety: High levels of fear or worry about social situations that might make the child or teen feel embarrassed, judged or rejected.

🟢Panic disorder: Experiencing frequent panic attacks or fear of continued panic attacks.

🟢Specific phobias: Intense, irrational fears of specific objects or situations that lead to avoidance behavior and significant distress.

🟢Selective Mutism: Children and teens with selective mutism will have no trouble talking in situations where they are comfortable, but with new people and in new places, there is almost a freeze response where their anxiety prevents them from speaking.
