Poison ivy or poison oak? Either way, an itchy, blistering rash is incoming! Here’s how to tell them apart before your next hike or backyard adventure:

Poison Ivy
• Three shiny, smooth-edged leaves
• Grows as a climbing vine or groundcover
• May have small white berries
Poison Oak
• Three leaves with lobed or scalloped edges (like little oak leaves)
• Usually grows as a shrub
• Produces whitish or yellowish berries
• Both plants contain urushiol—the oil that causes that miserable rash.
Don’t forget the saying: “Leaves of three, let it be!” Stay safe and rash-free out there!
