💀THINGS I WISH I KNEW AS A FIRST-YEAR SCARE ACTOR💀
((Part one))
Brace yourselves, haunt season is coming!👻
We're all excited, I know, but there's a few items you'll wanna take on this quest. This is not by any means a full list, this is just a list of a few things you'll wanna have handy:
1. Electrolytes: One of the first things any responsible manager at a haunted house will tell you is to bring a water bottle. You need to be drinking plenty of water to help with that "haunt hangover" (you'll know what I mean if you don't soon enough)💦
However, for me, *only* drinking water doesn't cut it and I don't want to flush all the electrolytes from my body. I typically show up for a night of work with a lot of water and Gatorade, Powerade, just something with electrolytes. These tablets I have are perfect for the boost you need. 💪
2. Tea tree everything- and a good moisturizer:
I wore the same heavy silicone mask for about five seasons and my friend in makeup taught me the importance of spraying it out with alcohol and tea tree oil at the end of the night. Tea tree is a natural anti-fungal and if you can't figure out why you need that after wearing a mask or makeup and sweating all night then I don't actually know how you tie your shoes and maybe haunting isn't the fast-paced job for you 😜
I was also reminded that moisturizer is a necessity since it gives you a protective barrier between your skin and makeup/masks/fake blood/other undesirable things on your skin. Furthermore, you'll wanna moisturize your skin after washing off all that yucky stuff!
As someone with sensitive but acne-prone skin, I recommend a moisturizer with tea tree in it.🧴
3. A good face wash and a tough-but-gentle Body soap: I recommend this 2-in-1 bar from Shield because who has the energy to mess with too many products after being on their feet entertaining people all night?
And speaking of feet...
4. Take care of your feet! You'll be on them all night, sometimes for several hours at a time. Try a good foot mask a couple times a week (so basically on days you're haunting) to keep them smooth and soothed😌
✨Remember, neglecting self-care doesn't make you a Martyr. It doesn't make you edgy or tough or cool; I learned this the hard way from years in the Navy ⚓ and other jobs that sucked. When you're 34 you're gonna look at the guy living off of Taco Bell, always "forgetting" his water bottle, and you'll be glad you're not him.
To make your life easier, I put together a "Haunt List" (hot list) with stuff you're gonna love having in your arsenal this year.

All you newer haunters out there please take it from me; when you enter your mid-30's and/or work a couple of seasons, you'll know why this stuff is so important.
Happy haunting, y'all! 🎃
