Spring is here, which means many of us are opening the windows, cleaning the house, and freshening everything up. But there’s one thing many people forget when they start spring cleaning…
Our pets live on the floor. They walk across freshly cleaned surfaces, rugs, and carpets all day long… and then what do they do?
They lick their paws.
That means whatever we mop the floors with, spray on the counters, or wash their bedding in can actually end up inside their bodies.
Over time, that chemical exposure can contribute to things like: itchy skin, hot spots, respiratory irritation, (and so much more!)
The skin is one of the body’s largest filtering organs, and in many animals, skin issues are often an outward sign that something inside the body is struggling.
That’s why reducing the toxic load in your home environment is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to support your pet’s health.
Thankfully, making safer swaps is actually easier than you might think. Here are a few simple places to start:
🐾 Floor Cleaners – Your pets walk on these all day (and sometimes lick them!)
🐾 Laundry Detergent – Think about what their bedding and blankets are washed in
🐾 Dish & Bowl Cleaners – Your pet licks their bowl every day
🐾 Dryer Sheets & Fragrances – This is the worst culprit in the whole home! They contain so many unnecessary chemicals
One of my favorite ways to reduce chemical exposure is by using simple DIY cleaners with essential oils. Here’s a quick recipe you can try:
PET-SAFE DIY FLOOR CLEANER RECIPE
¼ cup white vinegar (use ½ cup for urine deodorizing)
1 ¾ cup warm water
30 drops EO (Choose one of the following):
🌢 15 drops Lavender, 15 drops Lemon
🌢 10 drops Grapefruit, 10 drops Peppermint, 10 drops Wild Orange
🌢 15 drops Lime, 15 drops Cedarwood
