To tackle that sneaky visceral fat, here's the game plan:

Chow down on a healthy diet: Dive into a smorgasbord of whole, unprocessed goodies like fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein. Yum!
Get moving regularly: Shoot for 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of the heart-pounding variety each week. Sweat it out!
Shed some pounds if you're carrying extra: Even a smidge of weight loss can make a big difference. Bye-bye, belly!
Stress less: Master stress like a pro with exercise, yoga, or a zen meditation session. Inner peace, activate!

Excessive visceral fat linked to:
Cardiovascular disease
Type 2 diabetes
Certain cancers
Liver disease

Too many of us have negative connotations for "eat healthy" and "exercise." For most of us, "eating healthy" means avoiding the meals and snacks we love while being resigned to eating raw lettuce and tiny portions. But that's not all that healthy eating is! We can balance our diets with enjoyable snacks and desserts while also making sure we get the nutrition we need and avoid the negatives. The best way to choose healthy eating is to know what you need to get from your meals and what you need to avoid.

If you struggle to keep your LDL (bad) cholesterol down, you'll want to avoid red meats and stick to fish and chicken for your proteins for meals. Watch out for salt and caffeine if you are prone to high blood pressure. And try to avoid foods with a high glycemic impact if you struggle with controlling your blood glucose levels.

Try including avocado, salmon, tree nuts, and other foods that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet to increase your HDL (good) cholesterol. And keep some candy on hand if you struggle to keep your blood glucose levels up!

Eating healthy can look different for different people. Generally, everything is good for you in moderation and anything can be bad for you in excess. The best place to get started is learning about your own body and dietary needs!
