Just finished extracting my first batch of 2022 honey.

To make those chunks of sweet-smelling creamy beeswax, I melt pieces of beeswax mixed with honey and various bits of hive debris through several layers of cheesecloth (sometimes more than once, as in when some honey gets ensconced between layers of beeswax.) Molten beeswax lands in water where it floats on the surface of water and solidifies.

Occasionally, the result is not quite what one expects (see the pic.) Looks like calcified remains of ancient marine life or abstract art of some sort.

I have seen this once or twice before and suspect this is caused by beeswax getting hot enough to pass through cheesecloth but not quite hot enough to spread evenly on the surface of the water before solidifying.

Coming soon: CBD-infused honey. 5 oz of my honey infused with either 250mg or 500 mg of full spectrum CBD oil.

My first (admittedly somewhat crude, but still pretty well received) attempt involved a lot of hand stirring, but this time I am going for Nano emulsion (take 10,000 bees, tape stirring sticks to their hind legs, and let them go at it... kidding), which, if one is to believe what one reads on the Web, should boost the absorption rate from around 30% to 80%-90% and will look better too.

First meaningful (I harvested a bucket earlier, but that honey was sold before I finished extracting it) harvest of 2019 is in. Some of my hives that survived past winter have contributed, but, more significantly, so did some of the hives that I got as nucs in May (kudos to Randy & Eric Oliver of scientificbeekeeping.com - my first 2 hives came from them 10 years ago, and they didn't let me down this time either) to replace all the hives that didn't make it.

According to the first person to have tasted the new honey (who got it before I even had a chance to strain it to get rid of bits of wax etc.), "We tried some as soon as I got home and it’s amazing!"

Half of the haul has already been spoken for, which leaves the other half...

Over the past couple of months, I went from having around 50 "recommended" 5-star reviews on Yelp to just 19. They explain it by changes in their algorithm, but unless they are tweaking it every few days, I am at a loss trying to explain why every few days 1 or more of my "recommended" reviews move to "other reviews that are not currently recommended" (which now number 47.)

If they continue at this pace for another couple of months, I will be down no no recommended reviews at all, so I thought I would post them here, where the long arm of their algorithm will (hopefully) not reach them.
