From the storm-covered beaches of Normandy… to the jungles of Vietnam… to the deserts of the Middle East… generations of Americans have answered the call of duty so that we may continue to enjoy the freedoms we hold dear today.

At Ronk Funeral Home, Memorial Day carries a special meaning. We do not take lightly the sight of a flag draped across a casket, the sound of “Taps” playing in the distance, or the folded American flag handed to a grieving family with trembling hands and heartfelt gratitude. Those moments remind us that freedom has never been free.

Today, we remember the fallen heroes who never made it home. We honor the families who carried on without them. And we extend our deepest appreciation to all veterans and active-duty military who have served — and continue to serve — our nation with courage and sacrifice.

As we close out National EMS Week, all of us at Ronk Funeral Home want to say a heartfelt thank you to the men and women of EMS — especially right here at home in Crockett County.

We are truly blessed with one of the finest ambulance and EMS services anywhere, and that is something we never take for granted. While the calendar may only set aside one week to recognize you, the truth is your service deserves to be honored every single day.

Thank you for every late-night call… every wreck scene… every emergency transfer… every 3 a.m. wellness check… every hard conversation… every lifesaving effort… and every moment you show up when someone’s worst day becomes your responsibility.

Many people never fully see the sacrifices made behind the scenes — the missed meals, missed sleep, missed holidays, and emotional weight carried from one call to the next. But we see it. And we appreciate it more than words can say.

From the first responders on scene to the EMTs and paramedics who care for our families with compassion and professionalism, thank you for answering the call time and time again.

Beginning Friday, our business office at Ronk Funeral Home will operate by appointment only on Fridays.

This change allows our staff more opportunity to better serve the families of our community outside the walls of the funeral home — whether that be meeting with families in the comfort of their homes for pre-arrangements, assisting with cemetery matters, checking on monuments and markers, or handling other family needs throughout the county.
