This amazing lady in her 50s lost 125lbs after bariatric surgery and had excess overhang that was causing irritation. She had an abdominoplasty with circumferential (360) liposuction and loves her results!

What an amazing week at the Southeastern society of plastic surgeons annual meeting in Orlando!

Started off with a day at Magic Kingdom with my family, listened to some amazing lectures, co-moderated a session with the great Holly Wall, went to a havana nights dinner, caught up with former residents, attendings and mentors. Connected with new people had a great black tie dinner then ended with a relaxing day at the spa.

Can't wait till sesprs 23!

Guess which one is the reconstructed breast!

Clue: she's had radiation

This amazing survivor has had a unilateral mastectomy with tissue expander and subsequent implant based reconstruction and a symmetry breast reduction on the other side. She chose to keep one of her breasts and wanted them to look as similar as possible. She also wanted to save her ni**le and it was oncologically safe to do so.

I am so honored that this amazing woman chose me to get the breasts she wanted without compromising her cancer treatment.

While bilateral mastectomies do increase your chance at symmetry and it is not easy to make a reconstructed breast with implants after mastectomy look like a "real" breast, IT IS possible in some patients and patients can make that choice to keep one breast if they want.

Spot the difference!!

Imagine how she felt after all that weight was taken off her chest!! Took off almost 3kg altogether!! That's over 6 pounds!! A whole baby!!

Breast reduction can be life altering!!!! It can be the difference between a life of debilitating back, neck and shoulder pain, lack of self confidence and one of freedom from feeling weighed down, being able to exercise, wear clothes that fit, finding bras that fit and feeling pain free!!!

With a team-based approach to breast reconstruction, who is involved in your care and what each team member does is important.

Your breast reconstruction team should feature the following team members:

• Primary care physician
• Radiologist
• Breast surgeon
• Plastic surgeon
• Radiation oncologist
• Physical therapist
• Registered dietician

There are many team players, but a plastic surgeon should be on the healthcare team for those facing mastectomy. The options, risks, outcomes and results can only be best imparted to the patient by the plastic surgeon who will reconstruct the breasts.

It's an honor when members of your team trust you to operate on them.

This awesome lady lost over 100 pounds and had excess skin that was hiding the amazing body she had worked hard for.

I performed an extended abdominoplasty with circumferential liposuction (360 liposuction).

Notice the improvement in her posture, her confidence shines through in her after photos. So thrilled for her!!!

I am so blessed with amazing patients! This amazing patient of mine had a right breast cancer and opted to have bilateral mastectomies. She wanted to have normal looking breasts after and opted to save her ni**les. She had bilateral ni**le sparing mastectomies and I performed immediate reconstruction using tissue expanders as well as a lift if her residual skin and ni**les. She then had chemotherapy and subsequently underwent an exchange procedure to replace her tissue expanders for silicone breast implants.

Breast reconstruction is my passion. It is an unexplainable joy and privilege for me to be able to help these survivors along their journey to feeling whole again.

While beating cancer is the most important thing, I think you should be happy with your breasts too no matter your age. You are a woman till the day you die and you should never feel less than that..My goal is to give my patients breasts that make them smile, not cry about the reminder of what they went through.

Not all patients are candidates for or want reconstruction. That is a valid choice for those that choose it as it is not always an easy road.

The entire process took about 8 months. This varies from patient to patient.

We love when our patients send us photos chronicling their progression. This amazing patient of ours did the work and lost weight, that combined with having children left her with significant skin excess and stretch marks. She underwent an abdominoplasty with liposuction and sent us photos of her progression over 4 months. Her results will only continue to improve as her swelling continues to go down.

She loves her results as much as we do.
