Patients have been asking how I’ve been moving through this second pregnancy.
As a Chinese medicine practitioner, my primary care has come through Chinese nutrition rather than stacks of vitamins and minerals — alongside acupuncture (especially in this third trimester) and Classical Chinese herbal formulas. I know we tend to equate “natural” with doing nothing, but if you know Classical Chinese herbalism, formulas aren’t just safe in pregnancy — they’re deeply supportive.
Each trimester has asked for different medicine: prenatal depression, morning sickness, restless legs, insomnia, and now labor prep.
A few prenatal massages along the way. And after an unfortunate interaction with my OBGYN, I trusted my gut and moved fully into care with my wonderful home birth midwife.
The rest has been soul work — contemplation, meditation, listening for what actually feels right. That listening brought me back to a second home birth. It moved us, mid second trimester, into a home basically in the middle of the forest but still close to the city. And last week, it called me to the ocean one last time — , sun on my skin, waves, a carpet of wildflowers. Somewhere in that light I changed my mind and decided to have my mom come be with me before birth.
Eight extraordinary treatments in Classical Chinese acupuncture ( so grateful for ‘s mentorship) have done the deepest work of all — realigning me, holding the grief of my dad in hospice, and helping me reevaluate my priorities.
And with all of that said — I’m aware of the destiny written into my blueprint, and I’m arriving at this threshold accepting what is coming, and whatever the birth becomes. 🌸
