SHOUTOUT TO OUR NEONATAL PT/OT’s!

The week of Sept 21-27th was dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the work of neonatal therapists, including occupational therapists and physical therapists, who provide care to infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) around the world.
This week is a chance to highlight the importance of neonatal therapy and to show appreciation for the dedicated professionals who make a difference in the lives of vulnerable infants. 👶🏼 💛 🏥

This week some therapists participated in Apheresis Awareness day. 🏥

An apheresis machine removes specific blood components (like plasma or cells) and returns the rest to the patient to reduce harmful antibodies or abnormal cells.
Apheresis helps treat conditions such as autoimmune diseases, blood disorders, and certain neurological conditions including conditions like Myasthenia Gravis, Guillain Barre and many others.

Physical and Occupational therapists often work with patients undergoing apheresis addressing the resulting weakness, fatigue, or functional limitations to support recovery and independence. 💪🏼

Today was extra special—Bring Your Child to Work Day!
Our future changemakers got a hands-on look at the world of Occupational and Physical therapy. From learning how therapists help people regain independence to trying out some of the tools of the trade, the kids were curious, engaged, and full of great questions. Who knows? We might have inspired a few future therapists today!

What an inspiring three days at the NANT15 (National Association of Neonatal Therapists) conference for Laura Franke, Erin Savage, and Christa Dijstelbergen!

Sharing their passion for premature babies and their families with 500+ of the most incredible humans on the planet! Together we THRIVE!

Laura Franke received a scholarship for her work in going above and beyond her role as a Neonatal Therapist for a family that faced complex medical hardships.

Looking forward to maintaining connections with our new network of Neonatal Therapists from around the globe to support our smallest patients at Albany Med!
