The first month of afterschool programming at Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany is officially in the books and we couldn't be more excited about the energy, smiles, and opportunities filling our Clubs every single day. From homework help to sports and recreation to character building programs, our Club members are already growing, learning, and thriving.

Some of the activities the Jefferson St. Club members participated in during the month of August included, creating getting to know me sneakers, toilet roll painting, yarn painting, and our teens played some Pictionary. A huge thank you to everyone who makes our Clubs such an amazing place to be. This is just the beginning, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds for our young people.

The Dougherty County Staff & Family Appreciation Day was a huge success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the The City of Albany, Dougherty County Georgia Government, Albany Recreation & Parks, & Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany Georgia. Hosted at the Club at Thornton Park, the event featured a wide range of activities for all ages, including face painting, water slides, bull riding, bingo, cake walks, line dancing, & pool access.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to every volunteer who generously gave their time and energy to make this event happen. A special note of gratitude goes to The Men on a Mission for their outstanding support and for consistently going the extra mile. We appreciate everyone who came out and made it a day to remember.

It has been an exciting and educational final couple weeks of the Summer Enrichment Camp at our Jefferson St. Club. They have been working on salt painting, which involves creating designs with glue on paper, covering it with salt, and then using watercolors to make the color spread creating unique art effects. Club members made kites out of popsicle sticks, caterpillars out of pom poms and clothes pins, while decorating them with a wide array of colors. Other activities happening at the Club include glass painting, games of pool, and dancing.

Teen Club members have been watching coverage of the flood disaster in Texas and discussing the effects it caused around the area. They compared this natural disaster to the past floods in New Orleans and here in Albany. This helps increase their knowledge of current events while also learning about topics such as meteorology and geography.

Over the last two days, youth from our Jefferson St. Club and The Club at Thornton Park took field trips to The Clay Spot to try their hand at making ceramic coffee cups. After they were finished, each member was able to commemorate the occasion by working on a "I Created At The Clay Spot" coloring page. One of our key program areas at Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany is "The Arts" and this was an opportunity for our Club youth to try something new and unique.
