Great Futures Start Here

Our mission – to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens – encompasses our desire to ensure young people are equipped with the skills and support systems needed to succeed in life. Our vision is to redefine the “success equation” for the nearly 3,000 youth impacted by our staff, programs and services by building an even stronger Club experience, one that is characterized by intensive, targeted support in our three outcome areas:

• ACADEMIC SUCCESS – expanded and enhanced programs to ensure members graduate from high school ready for college, trade school, military or employment with a plan for their future.
• GOOD CHARACTER & CITIZENSHIP –expanded and enhanced opportunities for members to acquire and maintain a positive self-image, develop positive supporting relationships, become actively engaged in their community, and find and use their voices to become effective leaders and decisions makers.
• HEALTHY LIFESTYLES – expanded and enhanced programs for members to adopt healthy lifestyles and build the resiliency skills to avoid risky behaviors, which may hinder their opportunities to reach their full potential. By providing these opportunities we will be able to help young people advance through the necessary development milestones needed to grow up to become “productive, caring and responsible citizens.”

Over the next three weeks, Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany is partnering with Phoebe's Network of Trust School Health Program to teach the "Positive Potential" curriculum. The curriculum, which is designed to reduce risky behaviors and promote positive youth development, will be taught to our 6th-9th graders.

Our Jefferson St. Club celebrated Black History Month on Wednesday. Club members were able to learn about the various pioneers of the Civil Right Movement and the bravery they displayed. This month is a great reminder that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, love, and dignity.

When school is out, the Clubs are in! Our Clubs offer a safe place for youth to go when school is on a break and parents have to work. Club members were able to participate in kickball, fun games, and art activities. This week serves as a relaxing break for the kids and allows them to unwind before school starts back.

Jefferson St. was showing the love on Valentine's Day! Staff members were met with this sweet note by the front door. Youth shared what they love about the staff at their Club. Our staff engage in many extra roles at each of our sites, so it was amazing that they were able to feel the love.
