We are moving from fall into the winter season. Chinese Medicine teaches us that this is the time of the Water Element—the energetic system that governs our Kidneys, Adrenal Glands, Bladder, Willpower, and our deepest reserves of life force (Jing).
Winter is the most Yin time of the year. Nature retreats inward. Trees conserve energy by pulling their sap down to their roots; animals hibernate; the world becomes still, quiet, and introspective.
We are meant to do the same.
Yet in modern life we tend to push through winter with the same pace and intensity as every other season. This drains Kidney Jing, taxes the adrenal glands, affects sleep, hormones, immunity, and leaves us more prone to exhaustion come spring.
Below you’ll find guidance inspired by Chinese Medicine on how to honor the Water Element and support your Adrenal and Kidney energy now—so your body thrives through the colder months and the year ahead.
