Repsher Physical Therapy

Repsher Physical Therapy Albany, NY’s Premier Physical Therapy Office🏆
‘Helping People Over Life's Hurdles' since 1980! Our patients learn they cannot fall while wearing the harness.

Our passion is to provide individualized hands on physical therapy in a calm relaxed atmosphere. Our staff have advanced training and attend continuing education courses on a regular basis. Our patients love the AlterG treadmill which allows them to be unweighted up to 80% of their body weight walking or running while protecting healing tissues. We also utilize a Guldmann safety harness which supports patients while performing balance exercises. The skills learned allow them to progress to safe fall free walking at home. Our newest addition is Deep Tissue Laser Therapy which utilizes therapeutic levels of Laser light to reduce pain and speed up the healing process. This has been effective with patients even after suffering with high levels of chronic pain for years. We are a member of the Hospital of Special Surgery Rehabilitation Network. This allows patients to have their therapy coordinated between the hospital and our office.

Did you know counting your own reps can actually improve your results in PT? 🤔💪
It keeps you focused, boosts your mind-muscle connection, and helps you stay engaged in your recovery. 🔁🧠✨
Small habit. Big impact. 🔥

Week 10 Post-Op 🦶💪

Big week in Achilles recovery—this is usually when you start working on getting dorsiflexion (toes up) back, which is huge for squatting, lunging, stairs, and normal walking - which I am working on as well. Calf strengthening also ramps up: lots of full-range, double-leg calf raises, then adding weight, then eccentrics… eventually single-leg.

I’m not strong enough for full single-leg yet, but I’m working toward it. Right now I’m doing them in the AlterG at 35% BW for 3×20. Mornings are still stiff, swelling still flares (thank you Normatec boots), and some days the limp shows up whether I want it to or not—then out of nowhere you’ll hit a “good wave” and everything feels normal again. It keeps you humble.

Biggest takeaway: listen to your body. Push when it’s ready, back off when it needs it. A day or two of rest won’t set you back. Fueling well and staying consistent has helped a ton.

Next milestone: solid single-leg calf raises → then light agility work. I’ll update again in a month once I (hopefully) conquer that goal. Onward. 💥

📅 Week 4 Achilles Rehab
I’m now walking in the boot with weight-bearing as tolerated, which feels like a big step forward. This phase also emphasizes:
✅ Gentle ankle mobility drills
✅ Light resistance band work
✅ Light calf activation

I’m continuing BFR (blood flow restriction training) to help with quad activation, which lets me start:
✅ Light leg press
✅ Leg extensions
✅ Squats with minimal weight

Swelling and night pain are still part of the process, but that comes with the territory. The next goal: out of the boot and into a shoe at 6 weeks.

The focus right now remains patience, controlled progress, and consistency.

2 Weeks Post-Op Update 🦵⚡️

Two weeks down since surgery and progress is slowly starting to show.

➡️ I was in a soft cast for the first 2 weeks and completely non-weightbearing on my left leg. The iWalk crutch was a lifesaver — made stairs and carrying things possible, and honestly was huge for mental health.

➡️ Two days ago I was cleared into a CAM boot (still no weight yet for a couple weeks). Despite a strong repair, the tendon has a long road ahead to fully mend. Right now, I’m allowed some gentle foot/ankle motion (with restrictions) and can start strengthening other parts of my leg.

➡️ Biggest challenge? Mobility. Everything takes 3–4x longer. But aside from some nerve pain/numbness, I’m feeling pretty good.

🔬 For those curious, here’s what I’m using to help recovery:
• Game Ready device → ice + compression
• Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) → strength gains with less load
• NMES (electrical stimulation) → activating my calf
• Deep Tissue Laser (Class IV LightForce) → speeds up healing + eases nerve pain

All of these are proven to support recovery — and they feel amazing.

👣 Goal is to start walking in the boot in ~2 weeks and hopefully out of the boot in ~4 weeks. To be honest, it just feels incredible to feel my calf fire again!

More updates soon. Thanks for all the support 💪
