Hi Everyone,

I’ve had a few patients recently ask about the “barefoot” shoes I occasionally wear in the office. They are made by a company called Vivo, and their main benefits are stronger feet and a “zero drop” design.

These shoes are best suited for individuals who need excellent ground contact and have good arch support. I’ve personally found them beneficial for gym workouts and shorter walks. They offer great ground feedback, though the downside is minimal cushioning. I typically wear orthotics in my other shoes, so switching between the two has been an interesting experience. Orthotics on the other hand provide tons of support for your aches which is great for individual with fallen arches.

If you’d like to discuss footwear further, please let me know!

You never know who you’re going to meet at continuing Ed classes for chiropractors. Today in Sac I met Western States 100’s original runner (1974), Gordon Ainsleigh. He’s a chiropractor too! And irony of all ironies, today was launch day of the iconic 100 mile foot race from Tahoe to Auburn.

My Healthy Active Lifestyle.
The last two weekends allowed me to bring out my inner athlete and competitor. First a family affair at the Wildflower Triathlon, where my husband raced the long course Tri, I raced as a swimmer in the Relay with Maureen and Chris, my step-daughter raced the Olympic Tri, and my little daughter got to play outside. The following Mother’s Day weekend was USTA 🎾 Sectionals in Gold River for my women’s 3.5 40+ team, and I got to play two tough singles matches in the heat 🥵, before driving back home for a relaxing Mother’s Day afternoon with my family.

At the end of October, I had the opportunity to attend my first conference for the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists. In a word, it was great! There was a mix of hands-on sessions, and lectures I could nerd out on about biopsychosocial approaches to pain treatment, and also gala dinners and dance parties. I learned a lot, and it was fulfilling to be in community with dozens of other dedicated practitioners from around the country (and world!)… it was also nice to get a breath of crisp Pennsylvania air and take in the fall colors 🍁 Can’t wait to go again next year!!- Matt Smith

🚨🚨NEW MASSAGE THERAPIST 🚨🚨
Rosy grew up in Minnesota, making her way to Southern California for college. There she played ultimate frisbee, trained in somatic healing, and studied studio art. Rosy knew halfway through college that she wanted to pursue a career in massage therapy, and after finishing her degree, made her way to the Bay Area to study at San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork. There she trained in a variety of techniques, and now applies her creativity and artist’s mind to her massage therapy sessions. Rosy approaches the body with a sense of reverence, and people describe her energy as grounded, nurturing, and warm. Outside of work, you can frequently find her singing, dancing, taking a cold plunge in the bay, or curled up with a cup of tea and a book. She has an endless list of additional bodywork styles and techniques she wants to learn, and loves that massage therapy is a field that encourages life long learning. She looks forward to meeting with you, and supporting you in finding a greater sense of ease and wellbeing in your body!
