Daniel Zal, LAc is the founder of Acupuncture Health Care Center. In practice since 1993, he specializes in pain and is certified in Sports Medicine® Acupuncture. This technique is highly effective for athletic injuries and maintenance; relieving joint irritation and muscle spasms; managing post concussive syndrome, headaches and TMJ; plus treating day-to-day aches and pains. Hui (Grace) Gao, LAc is a highly-skilled acupuncturist from China who has extensive experience in internal medicine and Chinese Herbs. Physical Medicine is “the branch of medicine that treats biomechanical disorders and injuries.” This means physical medicine addresses problems involving the muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, discs, joints and soft tissue. For these kinds of problems people will often seek treatment from an orthopedist, physical therapist, chiropractor, athletic trainer or a sports medicine specialist. It is important to know that acupuncture is extremely effective in treating these kinds of problems. This is especially true if treatment is administered by an acupuncturist specifically trained to assess and correct them.

Treatment of Hip Flexor Strain

05/03/2019

This young athlete has a strained hip flexor. In the video you can see the spontaneous, involuntary release of tension in the associated muscles. This does not happen often, but when it does it's very cool to observe and always results in marked improvement.

From a "Chinese Medical" perspective the pain and discomfort he is experiencing indicate a "stagnation of chi". Precise placement of the needles into the motor points of the muscles results in the release of this stagnation, which in this case is obvious visually .

I am now "In Network" with the Empire Plan. For many years Licensed Acupuncturists have been prohibited from participating with the Empire Plan. However, recently they have changed their policy. Please spread the word.

I met a physical therapy/sports medicine clinic owner on the chairlift skiing yesterday. His first question was "How is what you do different from dry needling"? My response was that it is exactly the same. Dry needling is acupuncture. It is one of many techniques acupuncturists use. Not all acupuncturists are interested in learning or using this technique, but others are. I have been doing what the Physical Therapist Community is now calling "Dry Needling" for upwards of 20 years. There has been a movement in the Physical Therapy and Chiropractic professions to co-opt this technique because IT WORKS REALLY WELL. Fortunately, in New York, it is still only legal for Licensed Acupuncturists to administer acupuncture.

Medical billing takes a strange turn.

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet..

"How can you be so sure?" she protested.. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..

The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

Melanoma? True, the sun worshippers had a higher incidence of it—but they were eight times less likely to die from it.

Current guidelines for sun exposure are unhealthy and unscientific, controversial new research suggests—and quite possibly even racist. How did we get it so wrong?
