Dr. Rosenbaum discussed the proposed knee replacement surgery and also gave me a Kenalog injection, which has brought significant relief. ROTATOR CUFF TEARS | Why are they common sports injuries?

The rotator cuff, a group of muscles and tendons that stabilizes the shoulder joint, plays a crucial role in sports involving repetitive overhead movements, like throwing, serving, or swinging. Think baseball pitchers, tennis players, and swimmers. ⚾️🎾🏊‍ They all subject their shoulder joints to significant stress, causing microtears and damage over time.

Moreover, contact sports, such as football, basketball, and volleyball, also contribute to the prevalence of rotator cuff tears. 🏈🏀🏐 With frequent collisions, falls, and tackles, athletes in these sports face a higher risk of experiencing acute rotator cuff injuries. Additionally, intense training without adequate recovery, overexertion, and lack of a proper warm-up and conditioning can further weaken the shoulder muscles, increasing susceptibility to injury during gameplay.

To safeguard against these painful injuries, athletes must prioritize warm-up routines, strength training, and proper technique.

If you've suffered a rotator cuff tear, request an appointment with one of our highly trained sports medicine specialists to get back in the game!

🇺🇸 Advocating for Our Patients in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Patrick Marinello and Dr. Dionisio Ortiz recently joined a contingent from the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons (NYSSOS) as part of the AAOS National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference (NOLC).

Alongside other orthopaedic leaders from New York, they met with Rep. Paul D. Tonko (D-NY) and Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) to advocate on behalf of Capital Region patients on critical issues, including Medicare reform and ensuring access to quality orthopaedic care.

We’re proud of their leadership and commitment to advancing the best interests of patients both here at home and across the nation. 💙
