The Albany Stratton VA Medical Center (Albany VAMC) is located in the heart of Albany, the Capital of New York State. Part of the VA Healthcare Network Upstate New York, Albany VAMC was opened in 1951, serving Veterans in a 100-mile radius. Albany VAMC serves Veterans across the eastern, upstate region of New York State, utilizing eleven Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and a satellite office which services 22 New York counties and areas along the borders of western Massachusetts and Vermont. Stratton, U.S. Congressman of the 23rd District, a staunch supporter of Veterans and a frequent visitor to the hospital. The Stratton VA Medical Center is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1c facility, receiving notification of increase from Surgical Complexity Designation Intermediate to Surgical Complexity Designation Complex on July 8, 2011.
