Today, we’d like to shine a spotlight on Dr. Scarlette A. Garcia-Avila, MD. Dr. Garcia-Avila is a board certified endocrinologist with us here at The Veranda.

A little about her background:
Dr. Garcia-Avila completed undergraduate school in Santo Domingo and was also an exchange student through INTEC Student Exchange at Yale University. She went through The William J. Harrington Medical Training Program, specializing in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital before going on to complete medical school at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in New Jersey. She then went on to complete an internship, residency, and fellowship at Harbor-UCLA/City of Hope in California.

Dr. Garcia-Avila has been with us since 2023, but prior to working with us, she worked as an assistant professor in the INTEC program, a Physician Assistant at UCE University in Santo Domingo, and a Clinical Medical Assistant in New York City. She also received several awards through the INTEC program, including the National Young Talent Award in 2009, the INTEC Scholarship for Outstanding Students in 2009, and was Magna Cum Laude for her INTEC class in 2015. We are so glad to have Dr. Garcia-Avila with us here in Southwest Georgia now, where she is able to draw from her experience and expertise as an endocrinologist at The Veranda.
