February is Veterinary Dental Month! 🐾

Did you know that over 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of dental disease by age 3? Dental disease doesn’t just affect the mouth, it can impact the heart, liver, and kidneys too.

Bad breath, red gums, and tartar buildup are often signs of pain and infection hiding below the gumline. Regular dental exams and professional cleanings help keep your pet comfortable, healthy, and smiling.

February is the perfect time to prioritize your pet’s oral health, because a healthy mouth means a healthier life. 🥰🦷🐾

🚨 Carprofen Toxicity in Dogs 🚨

Carprofen (commonly known by brand names like Rimadyl, Carprovet, or Ostifen) is a medication often prescribed for pain and inflammation in dogs. While it can be helpful when used exactly as prescribed, carprofen can be toxic and even life-threatening if overdosed, given too frequently, or ingested accidentally, especially since they are such tasty tablets!

One of our dearest patients recently ingested an entire bottle of Carprofen, and thankfully their owner acted immediately. 🐾❤️
They sought emergency care right away, had their dog hospitalized, and then brought her to us for further evaluation and treatment. Because of the large amount ingested, we closely monitored her liver and kidney values, as Carprofen toxicity can cause serious and potentially life-threatening damage to these organs.

Careful and ongoing monitoring is critical in cases like this, and quick action made all the difference for this sweet girl.

Signs of carprofen toxicity may include:
• Vomiting or diarrhea (sometimes with blood)
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy or weakness
• Increased thirst or urination
• Jaundice (yellowing of gums/eyes)
• Seizures or collapse

❗ Never give human pain medications to dogs, and always store pet meds securely many cases of toxicity happen when dogs get into pill bottles.
If you suspect your dog may have ingested carprofen improperly, seek veterinary care immediately. Early treatment can save lives.

Doctor Spotlight: Dr. Chad Cooper✨✨

When Dr. Cooper isn’t in the clinic doing what he loves most: performing surgeries and caring for patients, you’ll likely find him outdoors or spending time with his favorite people (and dogs 🐾).

Dr. Cooper is passionate about bird dog training and hunting, especially when he’s got his own dogs with him. He also loves fishing of any kind. When he’s not outside, you might catch him talking baseball or collecting baseball cards, a hobby he’s enjoyed for years.

Above all, Dr. Cooper is a proud dad who loves doing all the “dad stuff” with his kids, making memories, sharing laughs, and enjoying time together as a family.

We’re lucky to have a doctor whose dedication, skill, and love for life shine through both inside and outside the clinic. 🩺💙

Did you know? Regular wellness exams help catch health issues early, often before symptoms appear. Annual checkups keep your pet healthier for longer and give you peace of mind. 💙

If your pet is due for an annual exam, needs vaccinations, or just isn’t acting like their normal self, we often have same-week appointments available and even some same day urgent appointments (depending on availability).

We also recommend annual bloodwork to get a clearer picture of your pet’s internal health. Our most important annual screens are the cat/dog adult panel and senior panel for our older pets. The senior screen is more comprehensive, so even if your pet isn’t considered a senior but isn’t feeling quite right, one of our doctors may recommend this panel for a more in-depth evaluation.
