I am so very sad to have to announce that after 19 years or working, I am having to close my practice.
When I went in last month to see the doctor after my MRI, she told me that I have a torn ACL and torn meniscus. However, my ACL tear was something she had never seen before as I somehow tore the inside of my ACL while the outside remains intact. She referred me to an amazing surgeon who specializes in ACL and meniscus repairs. Fast forward a few weeks and I see the surgeon who also tells me that he has never seen a tear like mine. He didn’t want to do surgery unless absolutely necessary because he is going to have to cut through healthy ACL tissue to get to the damage inside. Meaning he will have to cause damage to try to fix damage, and he doesn’t think the chances of that working well are very good. So we attempted a cortisone shot inside my knee in hopes that if we could calm down the inflammation it would be able to start healing itself. That was almost a month ago and I’m still no better than I was back in April when I started attempting to give an Ashiatsu, still lots of inflammation and lots of pain. So that small hope is pretty much gone.
Since I’ve essentially run out of body parts to use to give massages I don’t really have any choice but to close my practice.
It has been an amazing 19 years and I have been thankful to meet each and every one of you. I don’t yet know what my future has in store for me, but I hope to get to see some of you out and about in life.

Well, I finally had my MRI yesterday and just got the results posted this afternoon. It appears that I have ACL, MCL and meniscus damage. I see the doctor tomorrow, so we’ll see what her recommendations are after she sees my MRI findings. All that damage would certainly explain why I’m still having so much knee pain.
I find myself pretty irritated right now with my initial group of doctors who all told me further imaging of my knee wasn’t necessary because whatever was wrong with it would heal while I was non-weight bearing in the cast. Even all the way up to my final visit when they released me from the walking boot. All I got then was “if it still hurts in a few months come back and see us again”.
I honestly have no idea how different things might be right now if all of this had been diagnosed 8 months ago, but what a huge waste of time and living in pain for me all this time just because they wouldn’t do more imaging.

Today was finally my appointment to get my knee checked out. Initial x-rays didn’t show anything conclusive except that I still have decent swelling around my knee even after six months. She did do some extensive movement tests on my knee and the good news is that it doesn’t seem to be ACL or MCL, the bad news is that she thinks the initial impact may have damaged the cartilage in my knee. But that’s simply her working theory until we get further imaging. I will be getting an MRI as soon as they can schedule me, which likely isn’t going to be for another four to six weeks.
So as far as progress or answers, I really don’t have anything new to share.

It’s been awhile since I updated everyone, but sadly I still don’t have any good news to report. I am still regularly going to physical therapy, in the last month I have added weekly acupuncture treatments, and I’m still working hard on all my exercises. But there has been zero improvement. Just yesterday I tried to give yet another Ashiatsu session (my sixth attempt I believe), with just as bad of results as my first attempt.
I’ve actually contacted my orthopedic doctor and they are recommending I come back in for further imaging. It seems everyone who works on me has thoughts and theories on what could be holding me back, but the truth is we just have no idea why I’m still having so much trouble. Hopefully the imaging I get later this month can shed some light on the problem.

Well, I’ve been continuing to work on my exercises and trying to give Ashiatsu’s. We even modified some of my exercises to try to make them even more like Ashiatsu. But so far no luck. The exercises go pretty well, but attempting to actually give an Ashi is a whole different story. I’ve still only managed a few minutes, all of which are painful.
I’ll keep working and keep reporting back on how it’s going though. Maybe one of these days I’ll have some good news for everyone.

Well, some less than stellar news to share. I finally attempted to give my first test Ashiatsu since breaking my ankle way back in December, and it did not go well. I managed less than ten minutes of massaging, and all of those ten minutes were painful. Physical therapy has finally been progressing pretty well, so I was hopeful that I could at least start giving short sessions, but it’s a hard no at this point. Even though we’ve been aiming all my exercises at mimicking what I need to do in Ashiatsu, there is just no real way to recreate what I do.
I’ll keep working hard though, I’m far from ready to give up, but this is definitely a bit scary for me being this far out from my injury and still completely unable to give any ashiatsu whatsoever.

Ok, the Aromatouch therapy sessions have been going well for my ankle, so I’ve officially opened up booking for that. Sadly though I still don’t have any estimates on when I’ll be able to bring back Ashiatsu, my knee and ankle aren’t playing very well together and keep slowing down my recovery. So until that changes, it’ll just be Aromatouch.
Since this is my only real offering right now I figured I’d do a little highlight of what it is, for those who aren’t familiar with it.
Aromatouch technique is a very gentle clinical protocol of essential oil application. Essential oils are applied directly to the spine, and using light massage strokes are spread across the back, shoulders and neck, as well as being applied to and massaged into the feet. It can help with a reduction of inflammation, improving the quality of sleep, and boosting your immune system. Come give it a try!

Hey everyone! I’m finally at the point in my healing where I feel I can walk well enough and stand long enough to attempt giving a few Aromatouch therapy sessions. This is a session that uses a few very gentle massage strokes to apply a series of Doterra essential oils to help bring your body systems back in balance.
I don’t have my online booking open yet, so if you think you’d like to give one of these a try please message me to get one booked. I’m still at least a couple weeks out from being ready to try an Ashiatsu, my knee has been causing some setbacks, but I’ll most definitely post here again when I finally bring those back!

Now that Ive been out of the boot for a bit and we’ve really been able to start assessing and working on my issues our best guess is 2 - 4 weeks before I can start doing simple work like prenatal and Aromatouch therapy. And 4 - 6 weeks before I can start doing Ashiatsu. We’ll see how it goes!!

I was officially released from my walking boot today! Let me tell you, that sucker did a number on my body, it’s like I have to recover from being in that thing as much as I have to recover from having a broken ankle! 🤣🤣
The real work can now slowly start to get my strength back. Still don’t have any guesstimates one when I’ll be able to work again, but I’m definitely a big step (no pun intended, I’m behaving myself😜) in the right direction!

Still have at least a week to go in the walking boot, but I’m finally at the point where I’ve been starting to add some weight while I “walk” with my crutches. My body has REALLY not enjoyed the lack of movement over the last two months, so everything is pretty stuck and stiff, which is adding some challenges as far as starting to add some weight while walking, but my awesome physical therapist is working through each thing with me and we’re slowly making progress. We’re both hopeful that I’ll be able to bear full weight while in the boot in a little over a week, the goal my orthopedist has set for me. But there will still be a LOT to work through even when I can start walking again.
I am hopeful that there might be a slim chance I could at least start offering prenatal and Aromatouch therapy within a month or so, but we still aren’t close enough to being able to make predictions like that. So fingers crossed!
