The New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists

The New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists The regional chapters provide networking, programming and leadership to pharmacists practicing in health care facilities throughout NYS.

The New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists represents New York State pharmacists who practice in ambulatory, long term, managed, home and acute care settings. There are approximately 1900 NYSCHP members along with a well-established network of leaders serving on the NYSCHP Board of Directors, NYSCHP committees and chapter officers in the ten local chapters in NYS. NYSCHP is active in the community involving itself in outreach programs in schools, medical centers and teaching hospitals. For example, NYSCHP members provide education and information to senior citizen groups, stressing the importance of avoiding adverse drug reactions, adherence to prescribed drug therapies and awareness of the proper storage and expiration of medication. Approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education, the New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists offers a full spectrum of continuing education programming across the state at various times of the year. Presented to members and non-members, either free or at a minimal cost, these programs are offered throughout the year at the Annual Assembly and a number of practice based educational programs. In addition, the local chapters host educational programs monthly. The New York State Journal of Health-system Pharmacy, the official peer reviewed and indexed journal of the New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists and the NYSCHP Newsbrief is the official Newsletter of the Council. NYSCHP is actively involved in the legislative process on behalf of its members, in support ofTherapy Management singned into law in 2011. NYSCHP strongly supports expansion of the scope of practice, regluation of technicians, expansion of immunization. NYSCHP monitors hundreds of bills ranging from drug labeling to professional licensure to the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Shaun Flynn, Executive Director
