Southwest Health District encompasses more than 6,000 square miles in Georgia's southwestern corner (bordering Alabama to the west and Florida to the south) and including the following counties: Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Terrell, Thomas, and Worth.

Albany, GA – On Sunday, January 25, 2026, the City of Albany will activate Operation Safe
Place to provide people with a warm place to stay overnight through Wednesday, February 4th.
According to the current forecast, freezing temperatures are expected overnight beginning
Sunday and lasting through the beginning of February.
The Albany Transit Center at 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard will be open from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
beginning Sunday and will resume regular operations beginning at 7 a.m. the following day
during this time. The Transit Center will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January
30th. It will reopen at 6 p.m. that evening as a warming center.
We will continue to monitor the weather to see if the warming center will need to be extended
or any additional days will need to be included.

All county health departments, clinics, environmental health offices, programs, and administrative offices will be closed Monday, January 19. Normal hours will resume Tuesday, January 20.
