MHANYS IN ACTION:

MHANYS CEO Glenn Liebman testified today at the public hearing hosted by the Assembly Committees on Mental Health and Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in New York City on the status of the behavioral health workforce.

MHANYS testimony focused on the urgent need to continue to invest in community-based services and the workforce. This includes advocating for a 2.7% target inflationary increase in rates and contracts for mental health and substance use disorder staff and operations in the FY 2026-27 state budget.

MHANYS thanks the committee chairs, Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon and Assemblymember Phil Steck, for hosting today's important discussion and efforts to support the workforce.

As part of the ongoing New York State Department of Health Division of State EMS Resilience Officer Fellowship, our Fellows completed the FBINAA Comprehensive Resilience Officer Training in Albany this week 🚑

Throughout this 12-month pilot, Fellows are building skills in peer support, su***de alertness, mental health literacy, and resilience - equipping EMS agencies across the state with stronger, sustainable systems of support. Their training includes Mental Health First Aid for Fire and EMS, SafeTALK, Science of Addiction and Recovery, monthly case-based learning, and structured implementation support to help develop wellness initiatives within their agencies 💬

We are honored to support this important work and to partner with the EMS community as we collectively strengthen mental wellness and resilience across New York State 💚

Keep an eye out on the NYS DOH website for next year’s Fellowship application on Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Systems!

MHANYS IN ACTION:

MHANYS CEO Glenn Liebman this week at OMH's Annual Town Hall held at Hudson Valley Community College.

OMH thanked the work of MHANYS, providers, peers, patients, and families for helping to make New York State #1 for mental health in Mental Health America's 2025 State of Mental Health report.

As part of this testimony, Glenn took the opportunity to emphasize the need to continue to invest in and grow the behavioral health workforce and community-based continuum of services. This includes calling for a 2.7% target inflationary increase in rates and contracts for mental health and substance use disorder staff and operations in the Executive Budget.

We thank OMH for hosting this forum.

This Giving Tuesday and Season of Giving, let’s come together to empower, educate, inspire, and spread hope for mental health and wellness.

Yesterday, a team from MHANYS traveled to the Albany Capital City Rescue Mission to donate t-shirts, coats, and other warm apparel to support those experiencing with homelessness. The City Rescue Mission provides food, shelter, clothing, and medical services. Being part of the community is about helping one another. MHANYS is proud to support the mission of “Giving Hope...Transforming Lives.”

At the same time, MHANYS also relies on support from the community. You can support our efforts with a donation to MHANYS’ Community Mental Health Education Fund: mhanys.org/contribute/

This allows MHANYS to offer no-cost trainings to those who want to learn about mental health and how to better support those in their community.

Join us in building a stronger, healthier New York.

National Grief Awareness Week is a time to acknowledge the many forms of grief and to create space for healing, connection, and support.

At MHANYS, we recognize that grief is not linear, and that mental health care must honor each person’s unique journey through loss.

We are committed to reducing stigma, fostering open conversations, and ensuring that no one has to grieve alone.

Grief is love in motion, and healing begins with being seen.

Thanksgiving is a moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks - not just for what we have, but for the people, stories, and connections that carry us through.

At MHANYS, we recognize that gratitude can be a powerful part of mental wellness. We also acknowledge that holidays can be complex, filled with both joy and challenge, and we hold space for all of it.

This season, we’re thankful for the communities we serve, the advocates who inspire us, and the continued work toward a future where mental health support is accessible, inclusive, and stigma-free.

Gratitude is healing, and healing is a journey we take together.
