Meet a Board Director: Robyn Flaum Cruz (she/her)

Albuquerque, NM
ADTA Member since 1979 (first conference in 1973!)
Board Role: Western Member-at-Large

Robyn Flaum Cruz brings decades of wisdom, service, and heart to the American Dance Therapy Association. Having served the ADTA in many roles over the years—including AJDT Co-Editor, Vice President, President, and Past President—we are grateful for Robyn's continued leadership in the field and with the ADTA.

As Western Member-at-Large, Robyn prioritizes supporting ADTA chapters, recognizing that they ebb and flow as members step forward to lead while navigating life’s challenges. Chapters, she emphasizes, are vital spaces for connection, sharing, and mutual energizing across the country.

Dance continues to be a meaningful presence in Robyn’s life. After the loss of her life partner in 2024, she began studying social dances such as West Coast swing and tango—approaching dance as a place for enjoyment, experimentation, and resilience. A self-described collaborator at heart, she finds meaning in continuing to try, especially through movement.

Something you might not know about Robyn: it’s hard for her to imagine life without a dog.

We are the ADTA—and Robyn’s lifelong dedication reminds us how service, movement, and community intertwine.

A moment from ADTA60—Crossing the Tracks.

This reel highlights the Crossing the Tracks site-specific dance filmed in person at the ADTA60 Conference in November 2025 in Raleigh, NC. As a collective movement choir, participants came together to embody connection, history, and the power of moving across lines that have long divided communities.

Railroad tracks have historically been used to separate Black and White neighborhoods across the U.S. While policies and structures may shift, it is true human connection that creates lasting change. Crossing the Tracks invites us to embody that connection—moving together toward understanding, integration, and shared humanity.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, moved together, and helped bring this powerful moment to life. Gratitude to the Carolinas Chapter and Virginia Hill--ADTA's Eastern Member-at-Large for making this happy.
This is an example of 'We Are the ADTA'.

Winter Solstice Greetings from the American Dance Therapy Association ❄️

As the light begins its slow return, we pause to honor the many ways our communities celebrate this season. Whether you mark Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Yule, Las Posadas, Bodhi Day, Ōmisoka, Diwali (for those who observed earlier in the season), or any tradition that brings meaning, reflection, and connection—we celebrate you.

This time of year invites us to slow down, ground into our bodies, and listen deeply. Movement can be a source of warmth, resilience, and renewal during the darkest days, and our DMT community continues to shine that light through creativity, compassion, and embodied care.

May this season offer rest, restoration, and moments of joy.
May the returning light remind us of the power of community.
And may we all step into the coming year with intention and hope.

With warmth, from all of us at the American Dance Therapy Association.

Meet a Board Member: Kristen Crowe (they/them)
ADTA Treasurer | Member since 2011
Long Beach, CA

Kristen serves the ADTA out of deep gratitude for a profession that has shaped their personal and professional life. Having witnessed meaningful shifts in how we practice, teach, and build community, they are committed to supporting dance/movement therapists as we continue moving forward—especially in challenging times when vulnerable communities are most impacted.

As Treasurer, Kristen prioritizes financial stability for the association, recognizing that strong and transparent financial foundations allow us to better support our membership and sustain the future of DMT.

We’re grateful for Kristen’s leadership, dedication, and the warmth they bring to our community.
