This ridiculous trade war is getting worse. It's scary to think that if it keeps escalating, Dr. Shen's might not be able to buy the high quality Chinese Herbs to make our products. And the tariffs are hitting us hard. We're not sure if Americans think tariffs on Chinese goods are paid by the Chinese, but they're not. The tariffs are paid by Americans like us on anything that is imported from China. Claims by the administration that the Chinese will absorb the cost by lowering their prices is a flat out lie. Take it from someone who knows.
Chinese companies have halted purchases of US agricultural products, marking the latest escalation of the trade war between the United States and China.

Happy Chinese New Year from all of us at Dr. Shen's!
Chinese New Year 2019 animal sign is the Brown Pig. Chinese calendar combines solar, lunar and 60 Stem-Branch counting systems. The 60 Stem-Branch calendar uses the names of Yin Yang Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth) and 12 animals to rank the sequences. Five elements are connected to five colors - White, Black, Green, Red, and Brown. So Chinese use the color animal name to count the year. The name of 2019 is the Female Earth Pig. Brown is connected to Earth. Therefore, 2019 is also called Brown Earth Pig Year.

Founded in 1986 by Joel, Betty, and Noah Schreck, Dr. Shen’s Chinese Herbs grew out of Berkeley, California’s, Shen Clinic. Within a few years, they became aware of quality and purity issues with the imported Chinese medicines they were selling at the clinic. Testing revealed that many of the imported Chinese medicines contained impurities, unlisted drugs, and low grade raw materials. In 1994, they began manufacturing the Dr. Shen Chinese Herbal line of products in the USA, in modern cGMP approved factories, using the finest grades of herbs. Their goal was to make a better, safer product using premium grade herbs, modern tabulating methods, and compliant labels.
To make their products, Dr. Shen’s begins with whole herbs, not herbal powders, which allows for a thorough visual inspection in order to ensure their quality. This organoleptic inspection, as well as laboratory testing for purity, safeguard a quality product from start to finish. With great attention to detail, fully cGMP compliant partners in the USA do all the milling, mixing, baking, tabulating, and packaging. Each batch is tested for dissolvability, mold, microorganisms, heavy metals, and other impurities. Standardized powders extracted with chemical solvents are not used. Tablets are bound with a proprietary mixture of simple excipients, and then stamped, baked, and coated with a thin vegetable glaze; making them easy to swallow.
No sugar coating, dyes, drugs, or chemical solvents are used. Wildcrafted and organic herbs are included whenever possible. Dr. Shen’s will never use an endangered species, plants or animals. As of 2017, their entire line is Gluten Free.
Today, Dr. Shen’s are available online and in thousands of natural food and vitamin stores throughout the USA.
Though the company is best known for its three outstanding cold products, DR. SHEN’S YIN CHIAO, for colds starting in the throat, DR. SHEN’S GAN MAO LING for colds in the nose, and DR. SHEN’S ZONG GAN LING for colds beginning with a headache, fever, fatigue, they also make Chinese herbal remedies for allergies, immunity, hair loss, menopause, nausea, constipation, and other conditions that will usually benefit more from Chinese herbs than from Western medicines. They do not make products to treat serious illnesses that require a doctor’s care. Customers are encouraged to seek the advice of a Health Care Practitioner for these more serious conditions.
Although Dr. Shen’s is not open to the public, our sister store the Shen Clinic is available and open to the public @ 1071 San Pablo Ave. Albany, Ca 94706
