📢 WIC Benefits Continue
As of October 1, WIC services and benefits remain available despite the federal government shutdown. WIC-approved stores will continue to accept benefits, and local agencies can continue serving participants. For the most up-to-date guidance, please follow NYS DOH WIC.

But urgent action is still needed. As Georgia Machell, President & CEO of the National WIC Association, reminds us:

“Congress must act with urgency to pass legislation that fully funds WIC, keeps the federal government open, and ensures that federal appropriations law cannot be undermined by administrative actions. Every day of inaction brings us closer to a crisis. Failure to rapidly reopen the government could result in State WIC directors being put in the horrible position of trying to manage their programs with insufficient funds.”

Nourishing the Next Generation Together — A Story of WIC in Action

We’re proud to see a timely and inspiring spotlight in amNY on how WIC programs like the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center are actively supporting families during National Breastfeeding Awareness Week. The article celebrates WIC’s powerful role—from personalized counseling and breastfeeding peer support to nutrition demonstrations and community-building events.

This mission mirrors our own at the WIC Association of NYS, where we strive to enhance and expand WIC services across New York State. Whether a family is navigating breastfeeding, accessing nutritious foods, or building connections—WIC is here to support their journey.

Let this be a reminder: by standing together, advocating, and sharing stories, we can continue nourishing today’s families and tomorrow’s future.

🚨 WIC at Risk: Urge Congress to Act 🚨

The USDA just announced a major reorganization plan that would dismantle key regional offices and relocate staff responsible for running WIC and other nutrition programs.

This move threatens to disrupt the services families rely on—delaying funding, weakening support, and breaking down decades of institutional knowledge.

đź’¬ WIC is a proven, bipartisan program that helps millions of families thrive. We must not allow political agendas to undermine it.

📢 Take action today: Tell Congress to protect WIC and oppose this harmful USDA reorganization.

We’re grateful to see the Senate Appropriations Committee prioritize full funding for in its FY26 proposal. This is a critical step toward ensuring all eligible families can access the nutrition and support they deserve.

🗣️ As Georgia Machell of NWA said, we urge lawmakers to protect WIC’s public health impact by fully funding the program and preserving the food package.

At WICANYS, we echo this call—New York families are counting on Congress to keep WIC strong and accessible.

NWA commends the Senate Appropriations Committee for advancing a bipartisan FY 2026 funding bill that fully supports the WIC program and rejects proposed cuts to its food package. The bill protects the fruit and vegetable benefit and ensures all eligible participants can continue to receive vital se...

The proposed cuts would directly weaken the safety net that helps keep families healthy. Undermining them puts maternal and child health at risk across New York and beyond.

The National WIC Association warns that the Senate-passed One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) threatens family access to essential programs. While WIC isn’t directly cut, changes to Medicaid and SNAP could limit WIC enrollment. NWA urges Congress to reconsider these harmful provisions and includes a p...

❗️Help protect SNAP—join the Northeast Day of Action this Wednesday, June 25 ❗️

This week, the Senate is expected to vote on a deeply harmful bill that would cut basic needs programs like SNAP and Medicaid.

We need all hands on deck to urge our representatives to reject cuts that would take food and health care away from New Yorkers to fund tax cuts for the rich.
