Antonio G. Olivieri Medical Marijuana Program - New York

For many years politicians in New York have been considering, if you can call it honest consideration, the issue of medical marijuana. But New York has a legal system established by state law to allow for patients with the observation and oversight of a doctor to have access and to use marijuana for medical reasons and to be researched and reported for the benefit and risk directly to our legislature. This is a research program and therefore should allow for further study and use of just about any condition for which scientific evidence demonstrates potential benefit worthy of further experimentation in accordance with § 3397-a. The legislature finds that recent research has shown that the use of marijuana may alleviate the nausea and ill-effects of cancer chemotherapy, may alleviate the ill-effects of glaucoma and may have other therapeutic uses. The legislature further finds that there is a need for further research and experimentation with regard to the use of marijuana for therapeutic purposes under strictly controlled circumstances.
