Capital Area Pharmacists Society

Capital Area Pharmacists Society CAPS, Then and Now, a history by our Executive Secretary, Selig Corman. Selig was president of the society in Albany from 1966-1967.

Initially, in the 1960's, each county within the state had their own pharmacists’ society. The various groups would meet regularly for social, business, and professional matters. Drug manufacturers would frequently sponsor the various gatherings and CAPS was created in 1984. The first chairman of the board was pharmacist Tom Golden and first president Dr. Walter Singer. In 1989, Selig became the Executive Secretary of the organization and was in charge of communications (including the original CAPSule News) and finances. Unfortunately the organization experienced a great loss with the sudden death of CAPS President Mario Zeolla in 2007 and membership began to decline. Now, with a refreshed outlook on programs
and service, the new officers of CAPS hope to bring the organization back to what it once was!
