🔹 What is your favorite diagnosis to treat and why?

“ I really enjoy orthopedics because you get to see your patients progress so much and get back to living their lives again. It’s great to see where they start and how far they come by discharge day!”

Meet LB, DPT! LB is a vital part of the team here at FYZICAL therapy and balance center in Albany! LB holds a doctorate degree in physical therapy and she is also certified in dry needling. She is loved by all with her wealth of knowledge and down to earth personality!

Below are responses to our questions:

🔹What inspired you to become a physical therapist?

“ I was 8 years old when I first attended physical therapy for an Achilles injury during a gymnastics meet. That was my first of many injuries that would land me in physical therapy, and over the years, I realized it was a great career path for me.”

🔹 What do you wish people knew about physical therapy?

“ We do more than just make you exercise! Yes, exercise is an important aspect, but PT’s and PTA’s are well trained in manual therapy techniques, including soft tissue mobilizations, cupping, ect. I am also dry needling certified, which can be very helpful for many injuries, chronic pain, headaches, ect. Physical therapists can also treat TMJ issues, balance issues, and vertigo!”

🔹 What is your favorite diagnosis to treat and why?

“ I truly like it all, I enjoy treating a variety of things! With my history as a dancer and gymnast, I do enjoy treating young athletes and performers, since I was once in their shoes and remember what it was like feeling upset that I couldn’t dance or perform at my best while recovering from an injury. I love helping them recover and get back to their sport as soon as possible!” ☺️

LB, your heart for athletes, expertise, and joyful energy is the highlight of our day! We appreciate your dedication and being AWESOME! Thank you for all that you do! 🩵

Meet Ivan, PTA! He has been with us here at Fyzical in Albany for over a decade! (WOW) He is a cornerstone and vital part of the team here at Fyzical in Albany! Patients love his humorous approach to therapy, that makes them feel comfortable during their sessions, and keeps everyone smiling! 🙂

Below are his responses to our questions:

🔹What inspired you to become a physical therapist assistant?

“ Physical therapy was appealing to me because it is a career that would allow me to have an impact on people’s lives by returning some level of independence to them.”

🔹 What do you wish people knew about physical therapy?

“There is rarely a quick fix with physical therapy. It requires consistent work from both the therapist and the patient. The more that is put into the recovery, the greater the recovery will be. Also, the phrase no pain, no gain is not always necessarily true with a physical therapist!”

🔹 What is your favorite diagnosis to treat and why?

“ I enjoy work g with patients with balance deficits because I like seeing the progression they go through during physical therapy sessions. Improving balance makes an almost immediate impact in a person’s life. It’s satisfying to watch them improve by gaining more independence and returning to the things they enjoy doing” 😌

Our Physical therapy month celebration continues! Here is our therapist spotlight of the week:

Meet Courtney, PTA here at Fyzical Therapy and Balance Center in Albany! She is awesome at the art of physical therapy, and it sure shows! Below are her responses to our questions:

🔹What inspired you to become a physical therapist?

“ Prior to becoming a PTA, I was a medical assistant for about 7 years. During that time, I developed a love and passion for exercise and fitness. I knew I wanted to continue my path in healthcare and also focus on exercise. Physical therapy was a perfect fit! I have loved every minute of it!”

🔹 What do you wish people knew about physical therapy?

“ Physical therapy can be very rewarding. The key to success in therapy is patience and consistency. You get what you put into it. Physical therapy can be so much fun! Also, physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are licensed healthcare professionals. We truly care for our patients just as much as your favorite doctor or nurse.” 😊

🔹 What is your favorite diagnosis to treat and why?

“ I have no specific favorite diagnosis to treat. Each is unique and different in their own way. It’s just rewarding to see people’s lives improve because of therapy. Whether it be vertigo, instability, back, knee, or neck pain- I love to see the real difference we can make!”

For physical therapy month- we are honoring our AMAZING therapists we have here at Fyzical!
Meet Lindsey Johnson, PTA- she’s a vital part of our mission each and everyday here at Fyzical therapy and balance center in Albany! Below is her responses to some of our questions:

🔹What inspired you to become a physical therapist?

“Originally, I was in school to be an occupational therapist, but I was in the exercise science program at GSW, and I fell in love with the the exercise aspect of therapy. This made me change my career path to physical therapy. I have always wanted to be in healthcare so I can help people reach goals, particularly the geriatric community.” ☺️

🔹What do you wish people knew about physical therapy?

“It is not a quick fix, but it teaches you more about your body, and how to manage your pain without having to rely on other non conventional forms of pain relief.”

🔹What is your favorite thing to treat and why?

“I am really big on orthopedics in general- mainly because I have grown to love using manual techniques, and learning more about our bodies and how they move and operate. I honestly do not have one specific diagnosis that is my favorite to treat. My favorite thing is just helping people get better!”
❤️‍🩹 😊

WOW! We are so lucky to have you, Lindsey!

Did you know? Falling can occur because of disruptions to the body’s sensory and/or motor systems, causing loss of balance. To maintain balance, the brain must receive and interpret information from several different senses:

▪️ Vision (from the eyes) helps orient you to your environment.
▪️ Proprioception, or joint position sense (from your joints and muscles) helps to tell your brain where your body is in space.
▪️ The vestibular system (from the inner ear) senses motion, equilibrium, and head position.

Based on these inputs, the brain sends information to different muscles of the body to help maintain balance. Find the FYZICAL nearest you for a balance screening today, by visiting: https://hubs.li/Q02F_tcr0

How can you tell if your balance needs improvement?

Follow the single-leg stance test below to see if balance training could help:

▪️ Stand next to a counter, sink, or chair with your hand gently grasping the counter surface.
▪️ Leave your eyes open and put your hands on your hips. Grasp the surface or put your leg down if you start to feel unsteady during the test.
▪️ Stand on one leg unassisted and have a loved one time you once your foot leaves the ground. Stop the timer if you grasp the counter or when you put your second foot down.

If you were not able to stand on one leg for at least 10 seconds, your balance may need work! Find the clinic nearest you to learn more about our balance training program: https://hubs.li/Q02FWG3V0
