Submissions are THIS WEEK!!! This competition is open to everyone in Stanly County!!!

Stanly County Cooperative Extension is looking for the best produce in the county, and is hosting a contest for Agri Civic Day 2025 on August 16th.

Submissions will be accepted from August 12th through August 14th 10:00AM to 5:00PM. No late submissions will be accepted.

Submissions should be brought to our office at 26032 E Newt Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001

30 points are possible using 3 criteria!
1. Size (either largest or of appropriate harvest age)
2. Uniformity (to variety)
3. Blemish free (visible damage)

Categories include:
1. Tomatoes (Best 3)
2. Peppers (Best 3)
3. Okra (Best 3)
4. Summer squash (Best 3)
5. Winter squash (Best 1)
6. Eggplant (Best 3)
7. Melons (Best 1)
8. Cucumbers (Best 3)
9. Onions (Best 3)
10. Cut flowers (Best 3) - does not include herbs
Bonus 1. Ugliest
Bonus 2. Most unusual

Rules:
1. One entry per category per person, multiple categories welcomed
2. Entry must contain specified number of items
3. Each missing item is an automatic 5 point reduction
4. All items must be the same cultivar
5. Late entries will not be accepted
6. Contestant information will be collected at drop off
7. Winners will be announced August 16th

‼️PRIVATE PESTICIDE APPLICATORS‼️

We wanted to make you aware of an important update we have received from the NCDA&CS Structural Pest Control and Pesticides Division that may affect your ability to check your Private Applicator certification status.

Due to circumstances beyond their control, NCDA has had to temporarily shut down access to the Private Applicator database. This means Extension offices cannot currently verify certification status or send reminder notifications for recertification trainings.

Please note:

This only affects Private Applicators — Commercial and Public Applicator records are still accessible.

NCDA staff are also unable to access the Private Applicator data internally or provide lists to county offices at this time.

A solution is being worked on, and updates will be shared as soon as they become available.

We recommend you keep track of your certification renewal deadline and consider attending upcoming training opportunities proactively if you're unsure of your status.

The following pesticide classes are being held at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center (26032 Newt Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001) on September 16th:

A, B, D, G, H, I, K, L, M, N, O, T, X (2 hours) from 2:30 - 4:30PM

V Credits (2 hours) from 5:00 - 7:00PM
