ACL injuries are extremely common, especially among competitive athletes who subject their knees to all kinds of stresses from running, bending, twisting and flexing. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) stabilizes the knee. When injured, the knee becomes unstable and slides forward too much to allow normal motion.

Most people who tear their ACL feel pain and a "pop" in their knee when the injury happens. Their knee usually gets swollen soon after the injury. After the swelling goes down, someone with an ACL tear usually can walk. But the knee may feel unstable and can "give way" and make the person stumble or fall.

Expert Tips on Dealing with Bunions

https://mcclinic.com/blog/expert-tips-on-dealing-with-bunions/

As summer approaches, many of us look forward to shedding our heavy footwear in favor of sandals, flip-flops, and open-toed shoes. However, for those suffering from bunions, the transition to lighter footwear can bring about significant discomfort and exacerbate foot pain. Bunions, those unsightly and often painful bony bumps at the base of the big toe, can make summer activities less enjoyable.

To shed more light on this condition, we interviewed Dr. Edward Henrich, a beloved podiatrist at the Mason City Clinic who answered the most frequently asked questions about bunions and bunion surgery...

04/26/2024

In this video, Podiatrist Scott Donohoe, DPM talks about what the Podiatry department offers people with foot & ankle pain and/or injury -- for young to middle aged athletes, to foot care for elderly patients and problems that arise for all aged patients from overuse.

Podiatrists provide medical and surgical treatment of foot conditions that are caused by injury, disease or genetics. Each foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints and 100s of ligaments, muscles and tendons that are all under frequent pressure from daily activities. This puts the foot at high risk for injury and other damage.

Seventy-five percent of Americans will experience foot problems at some point in their lives. Because the foot is such an important part of our daily lives, it often requires specialized care from a podiatrist. Foot problems can affect the bones, joints, muscles or skin of the area, all of which are highly susceptible to damage.
