It’s interesting how often everyday situations turn into something more than we expect.

A simple concern can carry a lot underneath it; expectations, investment, care.

You can walk into a conversation with something straightforward in mind…
and find that it shifts quickly once emotions enter the space.

It can start to feel like you’re not being heard.
Or like others are responding to something different than what you meant.
Or like the dynamic between people becomes louder than the issue itself.

And then you leave, not just thinking about what was said, but about how it felt.

These moments are more common than we think.

They reflect how much communication isn’t just about words, but about timing, emotion, and the quiet need to feel understood.

There’s no perfect way to navigate them.

But even a small pause… a moment of curiosity instead of reaction… can sometimes shift what happens next.

Not Everyone Will Like You—And That’s Okay

One of the hardest things to accept is that you can be kind, thoughtful, genuine, and still not be liked by everyone.

And that doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.

For a lot of people, being disliked feels bigger than it actually is. It can feel like rejection, failure, or even danger. So they work overtime trying to be easier, quieter, more agreeable, more helpful, more palatable.

But constantly shaping yourself around other people’s comfort is exhausting.

Healing sometimes looks like realizing:
• You are not for everyone.
• Other people are allowed to misunderstand you.
• Someone can be disappointed in you and you can still be okay.
• Being disliked does not make you unworthy.

You do not need universal approval to be a good person.

Sometimes growth looks less like becoming more liked…
and more like becoming more yourself.

Week 1 – Day 3 Post (Psychoeducation for Parents)
“Why Kids Behave Differently at Home Than at School”

Many parents wonder why their child seems calm at school but melts down the moment they walk through the door. Here’s why:

✦ Home is their safe place — kids release built-up stress where they feel safest.
✦ School requires constant emotional effort — listening, sharing, sitting still, managing social pressure.
✦ After-school meltdowns aren’t defiance — they’re emotional exhaustion.

When kids feel safe with you, their nervous system finally relaxes — and that’s often when the big feelings spill out.

If after-school behavior has become overwhelming in your home, I’m accepting new child and family therapy clients and would be happy to help.

Week 1 – Day 2 (Psychoeducation for Parents)
“How Big Feelings Show Up in Young Children”

Young kids don’t always have the words to explain their feelings — so the feelings come out through behavior. Here are a few common ways big emotions show up:

✦ Meltdowns over small things
✦ Clinginess or needing extra reassurance
✦ Sudden changes in appetite or sleep
✦ Withdrawing or shutting down when overwhelmed

These behaviors aren’t “bad” — they’re signals. A child’s nervous system is asking for safety, connection, and support.

If your child is having a hard time with big feelings, I’m accepting new clients for child, teen, and family therapy. Call or message me at 507-668-4004

Week 1: Psychoeducation for Parents
“3 Ways Kids Show Anxiety (That Doesn't Look Like Anxiety)”

Children don’t always say “I’m anxious”—they show it in other ways. Here are 3 common signs parents often overlook:

✦ Irritability or quick frustration
✦ Trouble sleeping or nightmares
✦ Physical complaints (stomachaches, headaches before school or activities)

Kids communicate through behavior long before they have the words to express what they feel.

If your child is struggling with anxiety or emotional overwhelm, I’m currently accepting new clients for child (play therapy) & family therapy. Call or message me at 507-668-4004
