We are thankful for every dollar this event generates, as it helps support programs like Charity Care for hospice patients and our Community Grief Support. 🚨 FINAL LEADERBOARD UPDATE BEFORE COVE COUTURE 🚨

And we’ve got BIG news!

Alicia LaFaye Crumpler is currently in the lead, but Page Kennedy is charging hard, and just $115 stands between first and second, and we’ve seen bigger swings happen overnight. 👀🔥

Trish Morris has surged into third place, while Morgan Lavender, Megan Jeacock, Karon Bush, and Melissa Martinez are all within striking distance. One push could flip this entire board.

And don’t miss this: Desmond Mitchell and Felicia Jones are making serious gains overnight, proving momentum is real, and underdogs are dangerous.

And here’s the part that really matters.
Every vote matters. Every dollar raised supports the mission of Shepherd’s Cove, helping provide charity care for hospice patients and community grief support for families who need it most. When you vote, you are not just backing a model; you are standing with families during some of their hardest moments.

⏰ Voting is open until 8 PM Friday night, and this is truly 100 percent anyone’s game for the Golden Hanger!

“So… Shepherd’s Cove offers more than hospice?”

Yes, we do! Many people know Shepherd’s Cove for hospice care, but our mission reaches much further into the community. One area we are especially proud of is Shepherd's Cove Grief Support, which was recently named a grantee of the Alabama Children’s Trust Fund.

This support allows our team to provide prevention-focused grief services for children and families, including in-school programs that help students navigate loss in healthy, supported ways. These programs are about showing up early, building resilience, and making sure children do not have to carry their grief alone.

Hospice care may be how many people first come to know Shepherd’s Cove, but walking with families through grief, healing, and hope is also a vital part of our work. We are grateful for the recognition of this program and incredibly proud of the difference it makes every day in the lives of children and families across our community.

We are also thankful for the work of the Shepherd's Cove Foundation, whose dedication to securing grants and resources makes programs like this possible. Their behind-the-scenes efforts ensure we can continue showing up for children and families when they need us most.

We are honored to be a grantee of the Alabama Children’s Trust Fund.

Our Grief Support Program is proud to be a grantee of the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention through the Children’s Trust Fund, helping us reach children and families with care, compassion, and community when they need it most.

Prevention is powerful. When children are supported through grief, especially in school and community settings, we are not only responding to loss, we are helping prevent long-term emotional and behavioral challenges. Together, we can build a world where every child has the opportunity to grow up safe, supported, and surrounded by love.

Today, Ryan Smothers and Amanda Hollingsworth had the honor of attending a statewide check presentation celebrating this important funding. We are deeply grateful to our legislators for investing in prevention and for recognizing the meaningful impact our grief support and in-school programs bring to children and families across our community.

Thank you for believing in the power of early support and compassionate care. 💙

Gamecock pride is strong at Shepherd’s Cove today! Many of our team are proud JSU alumni and supporters cheering on the Gamecocks in the Veterans Bowl against Troy University. We may be missing a few folks in the photos, but trust us, the JSU representation runs deep.

As always, we support all Alabama football teams. Full disclosure, this spirit day was organized by our marketing director, who believes morale increases 87 percent when jeans are involved.

Go Gamecocks!

We are incredibly grateful to our amazing team of caregivers, who put their hearts into every patient and family, and to the Shepherd's Cove Foundation for always working to ensure we can focus on direct patient care.

When a 52-year-old husband and father came into our care, he was facing more than a terminal diagnosis. He was living with advanced esophageal cancer, severe unmanaged pain, and the emotional weight of knowing his time with his young family was limited. To make matters even more heartbreaking, he had been turned away by another hospice provider, leaving him and his spouse feeling defeated and alone. During the initial admission visit, both were tearful, seeking hope, comfort, and compassion in a moment that felt overwhelmingly heavy.

Thanks to the generosity of our community and the support of grants, Shepherd’s Cove was able to step in and provide the compassionate, comprehensive care he needed. Because of this support, we never have to turn patients away based on financial limitations or complex care needs. Instead, we are empowered to meet each family with open arms and a full range of services that prioritize dignity and quality of life.

Our team quickly responded with a personalized pain management plan that brought his suffering under control. We supported his nutritional needs through tube feedings and provided essential medical equipment, including oxygen, a hospital bed, a wheelchair, and a walker to help ease his physical burdens.

Because of the care he received, he was able to spend his final days surrounded by his wife and young children, with his pain eased and his spirit at peace. He shared his gratitude with the care team, reminding us that dignity in dying is just as important as comfort in living.

This level of care is only possible because of the heart behind a nonprofit hospice model. Through the ongoing support of grants, donors, and our foundation, we are able to say yes when others say no. We are able to go the extra mile, provide critical resources, and meet families where they are with no barriers to care. That is the power of community-supported hospice.

Admission Nurse Jessica Knott reflected on the experience: "Being able to walk into a situation that felt hopeless for this family and bring relief, comfort, and dignity—it’s why I do this work. It was an honor to be there for them when they needed someone most."

This story is more than a single moment of care. It is a testament to what is possible when compassionate professionals are supported by a mission-driven organization and a generous community. Hospice care is not about giving up. It is about showing up, offering peace, and honoring life’s final chapter with tenderness, presence, and love.

As the year comes to a close, we invite you to give so that no family in our community faces loss without support. You can be a part of the impact today by giving comfort and support when it matters most.

Tuesday night’s Lights of Love was a gentle reminder that even in a bustling world, there is still space for quiet moments of remembrance. This aerial view of our luminary garden, glowing softly against the backdrop of Albertville, captures that beautiful juxtaposition. Grief and loss continue long after goodbye, but so can joy, connection, and the light we carry forward.

Families spent time in the chapel, visited with Santa, and took part in meaningful memorial activities, each moment honoring the lives that shape us long after they are gone. The luminaries in the field represent the lives we humbly served this past year; their stories are never forgotten.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers who painstakingly placed each luminary and those who served throughout the evening. Your dedication made this sacred night possible. And a very special thank you to Chris Flores, who dropped everything to capture this stunning drone footage, giving us a way to share the beauty and serenity of this moment with our community.

May these lights remind us that love continues, even in the quiet places.
