ICYMI: Both the New Mexico Nurses Association and the New Mexico Hospital Association were quoted in a recent The Santa Fe New Mexican article highlighting healthcare funding passed by the New Mexico Legislature. We support this important funding and thank our legislators for their support!

Legislative session expanded nursing education programs, quickened the licensing process for out-of-state nurses and gave money to a tax credit and to hospitals.

Great tips from Lovelace Health System for scheduling and attending a mammogram appointment. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month we join in sharing the importance of early detection. Make now the time to schedule your mammogram.

The goal of National Mammography Day is to spread awareness and increase mammogram appointments in hopes of ruling out cancer or detecting cancer in its earliest stage when it’s the most treatable. A mammogram is a non-invasive procedure that usually takes less than 15 minutes to complete. Each breast is compressed, one at a time, between two plastic plates momentarily while an X-ray is taken that is designed to show any abnormalities, including potentially cancerous masses in either breast. Keep these tips in mind and schedule your next mammogram today!

Shout-out to all the pharmacists across New Mexico who have been administering COVID-19 (and flu) vaccinations. Thank you for all that you do! Happy American Pharmacists Month!

At UNM Health, pharmacists are an essential part of your care team. New Mexico is one of only four states that allow pharmacists to prescribe medication.

Our clinical pharmacists are certified to prescribe medications, including birth control and naloxone, and give vaccinations. We work with your primary care provider to give you the safest, most effective care.

Happy American Month!
